Diddly Squat Farm’s latest addition: a lake designed in the shape of a vulva

It is hoped the water feature will spark conversation

Jeremy Clarkson, best known for his decades on Top Gear and more recently for running Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire, has unveiled one of his most unusual projects yet: a lake designed in the shape of a vulva. Officially named Vulva Lake but also nicknamed The Wet Patch, the striking new feature has been created in partnership with the Lady Garden Foundation, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of gynaecological cancers.

The unveiling of the lake was timed to coincide with the start of Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign running throughout September. By opening the project at this moment, Clarkson and the charity hope to draw national attention to a subject that remains shrouded in stigma, silence, and widespread lack of knowledge.

A spokesperson for the campaign explained the reasoning behind the bold design, saying that the vast majority of people “know diddly squat about gynae cancers.” The play on words not only references Clarkson’s farm, but also highlights the pressing problem of public ignorance about conditions that affect tens of thousands of women in the UK every year.

Statistics underline the urgency of the message. Every single day in Britain, 21 women lose their lives to a gynaecological cancer, while a further 60 receive a new diagnosis. These cancers include cervical, ovarian, womb, vulval and vaginal cancers. Despite the grim figures, many cases could be prevented through earlier detection, better awareness of symptoms, and more accessible health education.

Throughout the month-long campaign, visitors to the Diddly Squat Farm Shop will have the chance to support the cause directly. Every purchase made at the shop comes with an opportunity for customers to make a donation to the Lady Garden Foundation, with all proceeds going towards vital research, education programmes, and support for women affected by these illnesses.

The Lady Garden Foundation itself has been at the forefront of the fight against gynaecological cancers since it was founded in 2014. Initially, the charity concentrated on funding pioneering research at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK’s leading cancer hospitals. Over the past decade, however, it has expanded its mission dramatically. Today, the foundation is known for its high-profile annual fundraising events, innovative awareness campaigns, and broad-reaching educational initiatives designed to break taboos and start conversations around women’s health. Its ongoing support has also enabled cutting-edge global research projects that are shaping the future of cancer treatment and prevention.

The unusual decision to build a lake in the shape of female anatomy is very much in keeping with the charity’s ethos of tackling taboos head-on. By bringing humour, boldness, and even a touch of controversy into the conversation, the project reflects the foundation’s determination to engage people who might otherwise turn away from difficult subjects.

For Clarkson, who has spent the past several years turning his once little-known plot of land into one of the most talked-about farms in Britain, the project demonstrates that Diddly Squat Farm is not only a source of entertainment for millions of viewers of Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon Prime, but also a platform that can be used for positive social impact.

The hope now is that Vulva Lake will serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of women’s health, and a catalyst for thousands of conversations that might ultimately save lives.
