James May responds to Clarkson’s Farm spin-off speculation
The 61-year-old television presenter and journalist, best known for his dry wit and measured style, has worked alongside Clarkson and Richard Hammond for more than two decades. The trio first became household names during their tenure on Top Gear, where their mix of motoring expertise, comedic chemistry, and larger-than-life challenges drew millions of viewers around the world.
After leaving the BBC in 2015, the three reunited for The Grand Tour on Prime Video. That show ran for several years, taking them to far-flung destinations and staging elaborate adventures that continued their Top Gear legacy. However, the series officially came to an end in September 2023, when the final special—titled One For The Road—aired. Filmed in Zimbabwe and Botswana, the episode marked the conclusion of over twenty years of joint television projects, closing a remarkable chapter in modern motoring entertainment.
Although they had ended their time as a trio, each presenter had already branched out into solo projects. Jeremy Clarkson quickly found success with another Prime Video hit, Clarkson’s Farm, which follows his often chaotic attempt to run his Oxfordshire farm near Chipping Norton. The series has been widely praised for blending humor with a surprisingly honest depiction of the challenges British farmers face, and it has become one of Prime Video’s most popular factual shows.

Given the program’s popularity, fans frequently wondered whether Clarkson’s longtime friends and colleagues, James May and Richard Hammond, might eventually make appearances in the farming series. These questions grew louder over the years, especially as Clarkson and May have occasionally teased each other on social media about farming mishaps.
In September 2023, James May seemed to put those rumors to rest. A fan account on X (formerly Twitter) shared an edited image of May posing with goats, complete with the tongue-in-cheek title card James’ Farm. The post asked, “Who else would watch this?” Rather than ignoring the speculation, May himself directly replied to the post with his trademark blunt humor: “I wouldn’t.”
The photograph used in the fan edit was one May had shared earlier that same day, showing himself with the animals, but his response made it clear that he had no intention of following in Clarkson’s farming footsteps.
Since then, however, Richard Hammond has actually made a brief crossover appearance. Earlier this year, fans were delighted when Hammond showed up in season four of Clarkson’s Farm, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and reunion for viewers who grew up watching the trio together.
With Clarkson continuing his farming journey, Hammond dabbling in guest appearances, and May firmly ruling himself out of agricultural adventures, the three former co-presenters have settled into distinct paths. Even so, their shared history ensures that fans will keep hoping for more reunions—on farms, roads, or elsewhere.
