Kelvin Fletcher shares emotional update following farmhouse fire
The fire broke out last year when Kelvin Fletcher and his wife, Liz, were enjoying their first holiday away as a family of six.
On Sunday afternoon, a new episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm saw the former Emmerdale star and his family prepare for the Royal Cheshire Show.
During the show, Kelvin Fletcher, who recently announced some new arrivals expected on the farm, tended to his cows in preparation.
In a voiceover, Kelvin told ITV viewers that running the farm smoothly has recently had its fair share of ‘challenges’.
He said: “We’ve had a lot of upheaval in our lives after a fire in the farmhouse meant we had to move into temporary rented accommodation.
“While I don’t want to add extra stress, there’s one event in the farming calendar I think is worth adding to our to-do list.”
Speaking to his son, Kelvin explained they were going to be heading to the Royal Cheshire Show in a few weeks’ time.
Kelvin told his son they’d be taking their calves with them to the event, which excited the toddler, who giggled at the idea of showing them around on a lead.
Elsewhere in the show, Kelvin detailed one of the ‘hardest things’ to do when it comes to farm life, keeping on top of maintenance. However, he told ITV viewers that every Thursday, a group of volunteers from the David Lewis Centre offer their help.
Kelvin, who is an ambassador for the charity, said: “As well as supporting fundraising events, they’ve become a big part of our lives on the farm too.”
While the 41-year-old was trimming back some of the hedges, he confessed that the upkeep of a farm is ‘huge’ as he praised the help of the volunteers.
He added: “It’s not been easy for us as a family these last few months, it’s been really challenging at times because of the fire. So, to have little jobs like this to have help with, it’s made a massive impact.”
The fire happened last October, when the family were enjoying their first time away as a family of six. Receiving a call from their neighbour about the blaze, the pair discovered the home was uninhabitable, forcing them to leave temporarily.
During an appearance on This Morning, Kelvin commented: “t was heartbreaking. We got back, and we obviously weren’t there, so we weren’t harmed, and the animals were ok.
“For us, we took great positives in the fact that we weren’t hurt. It’s just a huge inconvenience; the restorations have started, so there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
Fletcher’s Family Farm is available to watch on ITVX.
