The Curse of Oak Island

Oak Island Breakthrough: Gold Traces, Lost Tunnels and an Ancient Ladder Renew the Hunt

The Oak Island mystery has gained new momentum after a series of discoveries that suggest treasure—or at least significant historical activity—may lie beneath the island’s complex underground network. The Lagina brothers’ latest findings include gold traces in water and wood, a carved ladder deep in the Garden Shaft, and a newly detected underground void that aligns with decades of theories.

Excitement surged when gold was detected at Smith’s Cove, followed by drilling at borehole DN-11.5 breaking into a hidden cavity 90 feet down. A core sample from the void contained old timber, which metal specialist Emma Culligan confirmed held notable gold content. For the team, this was the strongest scientific evidence yet that man-made structures—and possibly treasure—exist below.

Meanwhile, work on the Garden Shaft revealed a preserved hand-carved ladder, proving someone reached those depths long before the modern search. The find raises questions about earlier treasure hunters—or original depositors—who may have worked in the shaft centuries ago.

Geoscientists have also identified a promising anomaly known as the “Baby Blob,” west of the Garden Shaft. The team believes a tunnel at roughly 95 feet may connect to this zone, prompting a new round of targeted drilling in hopes of tracing the island’s lost tunnels.

Beyond the Money Pit, Rick Lagina and colleagues uncovered an old stone wall on Lot 26, while Tom Nolan brought back his father Fred Nolan’s survey notes, including references to a mysterious “quadrilateral” stone feature and an unusual well filled with pottery fragments—both suggesting deliberate human activity.

Drilling in additional boreholes has revealed a 10-foot underground void and rising air bubbles, hinting at more man-made tunnels. To explore safely, the team has partnered with Duma Mining Company to stabilize shafts and manage water flow, believed by some to come from the island’s legendary flood tunnels.

Theories about the Knights Templar and sacred relics continue to shape the investigation, especially after previous discoveries like a medieval lead cross. While the island’s curse legend looms—six lives lost, one more foretold—the team remains focused on uncovering history as much as treasure.

With new boreholes planned and the Garden Shaft reopening soon, Rick and Marty Lagina believe they may be closer than ever to locating the original Money Pit or a related deposit. For now, Oak Island’s final secret remains hidden—but every clue is pulling the team deeper into the island’s untold past.
