Dining at Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds Pub Over Christmas – And Meeting the Man Himself

The Farmer’s Dog is a pub owned by Jeremy Clarkson and located just outside Burford in the Cotswolds. I tried out the pub at Christmas and was left with a memorable experience.

Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog, nestled just outside Burford in the Cotswolds, is a testament to his commitment to supporting British farming. He transformed an existing country pub into a haven for British produce, with a particular emphasis on locally sourced meat and ingredients.

The pub exudes a rustic charm that fits seamlessly into its countryside surroundings, boasting classy decor complete with wooden accents and the iconic hanging tractor that greets visitors upon arrival.

Since its opening, The Farmer’s Dog has garnered significant attention, not only due to Clarkson’s celebrity status but also because it ties in neatly with his popular television show, Clarkson’s Farm.

A small Christmas market was set up outside the pub, which, while not particularly standout, added a festive touch to the one-off event organised by Jeremy.

Stepping inside the pub, the atmosphere takes a turn for the better. It’s warm and inviting, buzzing with a lively energy that feels both special and festive without being too intense.

While the food might lean towards the pricier side, it’s worth noting that everything served in the pub is British.

There’s even a list of farmers displayed on the wall, detailing the origins of the meat, I reported to the Express.

The drink selection is equally impressive, featuring a range of soft drinks alongside Hawkstone lager and cider, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

The quality of the food was unquestionably worth the price tag. I opted for the turkey, a £26 dish that came with roast potatoes, a pig in blanket and seasonal greens.

The portion was generous, and the turkey was superbly succulent, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour.

For dessert, I indulged in an apple and oat crumble cake priced at £12. Served warm, it was fluffy and deeply comforting – a real winter warmer.

Although it would have been even more delightful with custard instead of ice cream during the colder months, it was one of the priciest puddings I’ve ever had. However, each mouthful was scrumptious and felt like a genuine homemade delight.

To cap off the evening, I had the pleasure of meeting Clarkson himself, which added a unique and personal touch to an already fantastic night.

If I were to encapsulate the entire evening in a single word, it would be ‘”expensive”, but in a way that feels entirely justified. Operating a venue like The Farmer’s Dog undoubtedly comes with substantial overheads, reflected in the pricing, but also evident in the quality.

The food was truly exceptional, and the service was flawless. By the end of the night, it felt less like splurging and more like paying for a well-executed experience, which I don’t mind in the slightest.

I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to The Farmer’s Dog if you ever get the opportunity, even if there’s a lengthy waitlist; I was fortunate to secure a table at this time of year.

There was only one thing that could have elevated my dinner to the next level, and that was a Yorkshire pudding. A contentious choice for some, but for me, they’re an essential component of every roast dinner.
