Jeremy Clarkson’s First TV Break in Four Decades: ‘I’m Genuinely Frightened

After a career spanning over four decades, Jeremy Clarkson is finally stepping away from television production for the first time in 40 years. The iconic Top Gear host and Clarkson’s Farm star has revealed that he’s taking a much-needed break from filming, something he admits leaves him feeling “genuinely frightened.”

For Clarkson, 65, this break comes after an incredibly busy seven-year filming schedule, during which he juggled multiple shows, including Clarkson’s Farm, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and The Grand Tour. His schedule has been relentless, with minimal time off between major projects. But now, Clarkson is taking a step back, pressing pause on filming for all of his current series, including his new ITV spin-off show, Millionaire Hot Seat.

Speaking at the launch of the new series, Clarkson shared his thoughts on his unexpected time away from the camera: “I’m genuinely frightened because until March, I won’t be filming a TV show for the first time in forty years. That will be three months of s**t.” He went on to admit that the idea of being away from the hustle and bustle of filming after so many years is an unsettling thought.

A Busy Filming Schedule and the Toll It Took

Clarkson’s intense work schedule has taken a toll on him in more ways than one. As well as his Clarkson’s Farm commitments, he continued to host Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and worked on The Grand Tour alongside his former Top Gear co-stars. With the pressure mounting, Clarkson confessed to having health issues in the past year, particularly after taking on more than he could handle.

“I was coming back knackered from a day trying to get the pub open, and having to get straight into the tractor to do grain carting through the night,” Clarkson recalled. “You can’t make the harvest wait—if the wheat and barley are ready and fit, you’ve got to get out there. God, it was knackering.” He admitted that trying to balance the demands of opening his pub, The Farmer’s Dog, while also working on his farm for the harvest led to serious health problems, including a heart issue that landed him in the hospital.

He explained, “It’s very well documented that I ended up in hospital with a heart problem. When you see how stressful it was trying to do those two things—there’s simply no sleep.” Clarkson’s intense work ethic has been both a point of pride and a source of strain, as he pushed himself beyond his physical limits to keep up with his busy filming schedule.

Taking a Break and Moving Forward

Although Clarkson’s farming journey has been chaotic, it’s also been filled with moments of humor, such as his infamous comment about renting a pig “for sexual purposes,” which he shared with his fans on social media earlier this year. Despite the challenges, Clarkson remains passionate about his farming venture, even as he temporarily pauses filming at Diddly Squat Farm. He reassured fans, “Filming at Diddly Squat has stopped for a little while, but the farming goes on,” confirming that his dedication to farming continues, even if the cameras aren’t rolling.

Clarkson’s Farm, which first premiered in 2021, has become a fan favorite as viewers follow his journey to become a farmer. The series documents his transition from city life to the Cotswolds, where he runs Diddly Squat Farm with the help of his team. Despite the setbacks, Clarkson has embraced the challenges of farming, and the show’s success has been a testament to his ability to keep pushing forward—even when the going gets tough.

The Future of Clarkson’s TV Career

Clarkson is set to return to television screens in 2026, with new episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, including a new spin-off show, Millionaire Hot Seat, where six contestants compete for a cash prize in a rotating ‘hot seat.’ The new format will see Clarkson in his element, grilling contestants and testing their wits under pressure. In addition to Millionaire Hot Seat, he’ll host 19 new episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and seven celebrity specials, which are set to air next year.

Even with his upcoming projects, Clarkson’s decision to take a break and focus on his health is a reflection of the toll his career has taken on him. This period of rest will allow him to recharge and refocus, ensuring that when he returns, he’ll be ready for whatever comes next.

Fans of Clarkson and his shows can rest assured that while he’s taking a well-deserved break from filming, the star is not slowing down permanently. His love for his farm, his passion for television, and his commitment to entertaining the world will keep him busy for years to come.

Looking Ahead

As Clarkson takes time off from filming, it’s clear that his fans, both on Clarkson’s Farm and beyond, will be eagerly awaiting his return. This break is a well-deserved chance for him to recharge after an intense period of work, and when he returns, Clarkson will no doubt continue to entertain and inspire with his unique blend of humor, hard work, and determination.

For now, the world waits to see what Clarkson’s next chapter holds—and, knowing him, it’s sure to be filled with plenty of surprises.
