Gold Rush

How Tyler Went From Broke Dropout to Million-Dollar Business Owner | Her Wild Journey

Tyler Mahoney’s journey to business success is anything but conventional. From dropping out of university at 18 to running a multi-million-dollar gold dealership, her story is one of perseverance, mental health struggles, and an unrelenting entrepreneurial spirit.

An Unexpected Start in Business

Mahoney initially set out to create a jewelry business, outsourcing manufacturing overseas. However, dissatisfaction with the process led her to learn how to craft jewelry herself. Working as a bartender in Melbourne, she carried her handmade pieces in a shoebox, selling them to colleagues and customers. A breakthrough came when model Steph Claire Smith wore her earrings on social media, boosting sales and allowing Mahoney to invest in a professional website—a financial gamble that maxed out three credit cards.

Battling Mental Health Struggles

While her business was taking off, Mahoney faced personal battles with an eating disorder and bipolar disorder. She struggled with extreme dieting, over-exercising, and self-harm, all while trying to grow her brand. A bipolar diagnosis marked a turning point, leading her to prioritize mental health treatment, therapy, and medication.

Pivoting to Gold Prospecting

Returning to Western Australia, Mahoney ventured into gold prospecting and joined the cast of Aussie Gold Hunters. The exposure led to growing popularity on social media, with fans asking her for gold-finding tips. This inspired The Prospectors Club, an online membership program teaching enthusiasts the art of prospecting. As demand for physical gold increased, Mahoney transitioned into gold sales, starting with gold from her family’s mine before expanding to work with other local prospectors.

The Rise of a Multi-Million Dollar Business

What began as a small business has evolved into a thriving gold dealership projected to generate $2-$3 million in revenue this year. Mahoney now employs six staff members and continues to build her business while maintaining a presence in the gold mining and reality TV industries.

Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead

Despite facing financial hardships and mental health struggles, Mahoney has turned adversity into success. From launching businesses in jewelry, swimwear, and event planning to becoming a mine manager and TV personality, she has proven resilience is key to entrepreneurial success.

As Mahoney’s business continues to grow, she remains an advocate for mental health awareness and encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to take risks, embrace failures, and seek support when needed. Her journey is a testament to perseverance, passion, and the power of reinvention.
