Jeremy Clarkson furious over ‘completely realistic’ fake posts targeting Clarkson’s Farm star
Jeremy Clarkson has been left disgusted by ‘completely realistic’ posts claiming that one of the stars of Prime Video hit Clarkson’s Farm had died in a sick AI hoax
Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, 65, was left furious after twisted AI posts and accompanying images went out on Facebook which detailed several totally fake ‘disasters’ that were meant to have happened on the Oxfordshire farm where Clarkson’s Farm is filmed.
One of them was a news’ post that maintained that his dry stone wall expert and ‘head of security’ Gerald Cooper had died – after he was diagnosed with cancer in the show’s third series.
The posts, which also claimed that his wife Lisa had left him, that Jeremy had broken his leg, and that his farm hand Kaleb Cooper had had a fourth child – all total lies – were posted alongside AI-generated images, said Jeremy, that made them seem true.
Writing in his column in The Sun, the show star ranted, ‘On Facebook this week, we heard from just my farm alone that Gerald has died, Kaleb has had another kid, Lisa has left me, and I’ve broken my leg.
‘All of the stories were accompanied by a completely realistic photograph. And all of them were complete nonsense.
‘Do I mind? Yes. Mostly because Gerald is unused to being in the public eye, and it worries him that his kids see this kind of thing online. So whoever’s doing it, pack it in.’
He went on to slam AI users for ‘digitally removing clothes’ from people’s images, after – X’s Grok feature was being used disturbingly to ‘digitally undress’ people.
Plenty of fans online were in agreement with the misuse of AI in fake stories. One wrote, “Social media is turning into a cesspit”, while another proposed Fines for posting AI generated material without declaring it in the first 5 seconds?
Another wrote angrily, “There are some vile and sick people in the world who just want to upset everyone.”
Show regular Gerald, who has been an integral part of the action since it first aired in 2021, revealed in 2024 that he was cancer-free after treatment for prostate cancer in 2024.
The diagnosis came when he and the Clarkson’s Farm team were filming for the third series with Jeremy reacting in one episode to the news, saying, “I’ve been phoning around, doctors and things I know, and his odds are really good, but it’s scaring him to death.
He added, “I know he doesn’t understand and he’s bewildered because, for obvious reasons, somebody said, “Look, I’m sorry it’s cancer”, and that’s all he heard. He’s desperately upset, terrified. Poor man.”
In an update to fans in 2024, Gerald revealed delightedly that he was ‘happy and cancer-free’ after going through treatment and thanked ‘everyone for supporting’ him.
