Kelvin Fletcher ‘heartbroken’ after fire destroys family home ‘I feel so detached’

Kelvin Fletcher and his family were forced to leave their family home after a fire destroyed it

Kelvin Fletcher admitted he felt heartbroken as he and his wife, Liz, began clearing out their “dream family home” following a major fire.

During the latest episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm, which airs on Sunday, Kelvin and Liz returned to their family home as they prepare to rebuild it. The Fletcher family was forced to leave their home after a fire broke out while they were on holiday.

Liz and Kelvin looked emotional as they surveyed their damaged possessions, deciding what to keep and what to throw away. Kelvin said he felt “so detached” and “lost his connection” to the house since it was destroyed.

In a voiceover, Kelvin reflected, “It’s hard to believe how long it’s been since the fire at the farmhouse. The smoke damage made the house unlivable, and insurance rules meant the place had to stay untouched for months. But today’s a big moment, we can finally start clearing the site and begin the journey towards rebuilding. ”

“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for,” Liz said. “The delivery of the skip, because that means that we can finally clear it out and rebuild the house, and we can get back in the house.

“And it has felt like forever, like over a year ago, when we stood here just looking at the damage and thinking, ‘what are we going to do?’ And now we stood here thinking, ‘You’ve got to start somewhere’.”

As the couple began salvaging what they were keeping from the house, Kelvin said excitedly, “This is the beginning of the next chapter, the rebuild.”

Before the renovation work could start, Kelvin and Liz needed to clear everything out. The former soap star shared, “And when you’re dealing with a lifetime of memories and belongings, it’s not an easy task.”

Liz seemed to take charge when deciding what to keep from the wreckage, but during that moment, Kelvin made a sad realisation. He said, “I’ve wanted to start this for almost 18 months, and then I’ve become so detached.

“You walk past it, and I’ve just lost my connection, really, which is heartbreaking to say, but it was our home. It was our dream home in many ways, and to have that disconnect, and you’re just so busy with everything else, and the process has been so long, it’s just finally good to turn a new page and finally start the rebuild. ”

Liz also admitted it made her feel “sad” when walking through their home after the fire. She went on, “It still makes me so sad when I come in and see it like this, but the thought now that we can just clear up.

“People say, ‘Oh, you’ve had some bad luck this year’. And, yeah, but actually, we do always say we’ve been so lucky that we weren’t here. I just can’t imagine what that would have been like.

“I spent my childhood with my mum and dad building and decorating. The house was never finished. The house got finished when they sold it. I feel like I’m just repeating my childhood now.

“I’m gonna live on a building site for the best of my life, and probably when we finish it, then we will be so old that we sell it and move on. History, repeating itself.”
