Britain’s Got Talent fans left divided as Jeremy Clarkson’s choir given golden buzzer

Amanda Holden was left in tears on Britain’s Got Talent by the act

Britain’s Got Talent fans were left divided as Jeremy Clarkson’s choir were given the golden buzzer on the ITV talent show.

In a twist to proceedings, Stacey Solomon filled in for Simon Cowell on the fourth episode of the series’ 19th season on Saturday night (March 21). The X Factor singer and TV presenter sat alongside Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and KSI on the judging panel.

Simon missed two days of Britain’s Got Talent auditions after he ‘fell down some steps’ and bumped his head back in October. After postponing one day of the Birmingham auditions, Stacey was drafted in to replace him.

It was a busy start to the episode with BMX performers The Skate Squad and 12-year-old singer James Miller receiving four yeses from the judges. The latter received a standing ovation for his rendition of Defining Gravity from Wicked.

However, the act who dominated social media chatter was the Hawkstone Farmers’ Choir. Named after the famous presenter’s brewery, the group is made up of agriculture workers from rural Oxfordshire, many of whom live and work near Jeremy’s Diddly Squat Farm.

One of its members said: “I’m Catriona and Jeremy Clarkson did a thing, and that thing was the Hawkstone Farmers’ Choir. Jeremy brought us together to sing and it’s just been really amazing for us all. Every single one of us is in agriculture in some way or another. This isn’t our day job, we’re normally out in the field.

“We work by ourselves day in, day out, sometimes 16 hours a day. This has brought us all together… We have one thing that unites us and that is farming. We love what we do, but it’s incredibly lonely. It’s really isolating, to do this all together means the world to us.”

Singing One Day Like This by UK group Elbow, Amanda broke down in tears as she pressed the golden buzzer. This of course means they go straight through to the programme’s semi-finals.

“As soon as you, god it’s so silly, as soon as you started. I completely welled up. I felt so much power. I love the whole community and how you all came together to work you asses off. You work so hard every single day. You all smashed it and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do in the semi-finals,” she said.

However, Britain’s Got Talent viewers over on X, previously known as Twitter, were left split on whether they think the group deserve to have received the golden buzzer.

@SamFarmer2 said: “They were nowhere near worthy of the gold buzzer #bgt.” @jaygrocott29 added: “WTF? I mean the choir was okay, but ONLY okay. It did NOT deserve the golden buzzer. #BGT.”

@TheManc36 wrote: “You just knew the golden buzzer was coming for that choir #bgt not a clue why though. Bang average.” @GlennFPinder argued: “Wow. Farmers choir, magnificent. Bravo.”

@RyanSoapKing25 commented: “We need a choir to win BGT! Well done Hawkstone Farmers Choir so happy for them.” @bevbloggs stated: “There’s something about a choir and that was brilliant. #BGT.”
