Gold Rush

Big Budgets and Bigger Challenges | Parker Schnabel

Big Budgets and Bigger Challenges
Running a gold mining operation under the watchful eye of a camera crew is no easy feat. Parker Schnabel, the face of Gold Rush, knows this better than anyone. With over 60,000 hours of footage documenting his every move, balancing business with constant filming is a unique challenge. “It’s a love-hate relationship,” Parker admits. “At first, it was exciting. Now, I’m scared it will never end.”

Turning Gold into Treasure
In a rare move, Parker handed over 100 ounces of his Dominion gold to master craftsman Bruce to create custom jewelry. From rings to chains, even a golden cigar ashtray, Bruce transformed raw gold into stunning pieces. “It’s silky smooth,” Parker marveled, though he joked that gold jewelry might not be his style.

Big Spends, Big Rewards
Investing in new equipment is crucial for Parker’s success. This season, he splurged $540,000 on brand-new water pumps, ensuring his wash plants run smoothly. “We live and die by these pumps,” he says. “If they fail, mining stops.”

A New Toy for Exploration
To explore his 7,500-acre claim, Parker brought in a Sherp—a Ukrainian-built amphibious vehicle. The first water test? A mix of thrill and near disaster. “We might be stuck in the pond,” he laughed before finally making it to shore.

Chasing Gold, Avoiding Failure
With drill expert Liam Ferguson, Parker scouted Sulfur Creek, a site untouched for over a century. Signs of past mining sparked hope, but panning revealed little gold. “Not quite a dead creek, but close,” Parker admitted. Still, his relentless drive for the next big strike remains. “True failure? I haven’t found out what that’s like yet—but I’m sure it’s coming.”
