Clarkson’s Farm Christmas special lined up says producer

Clarkson’s Farm is set to return sooner than many fans expected, with producer Andy Wilman revealing that series five should arrive in just a matter of weeks and hinting that a festive special may also be on the way.

The Prime Video series, which first launched in 2021, has become one of the platform’s most successful factual entertainment shows, following Jeremy Clarkson’s often chaotic attempts to run Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington, Oxfordshire. Over four series, viewers have watched Clarkson navigate everything from livestock troubles and crop failures to council disputes and the harsh realities of modern farming. Alongside him, familiar faces such as farm manager Kaleb Cooper, land agent Charlie Ireland and Clarkson’s partner Lisa Hogan have become central to the show’s appeal.

The programme’s most recent run also expanded beyond the farm itself, bringing Clarkson’s pub venture into the spotlight. His purchase of The Windmill in Asthall, later reopened as The Farmer’s Dog in 2024, added a fresh layer to the series, showing that his ambitions in the countryside stretch well beyond tractors and fields.

Now, according to comments made by long-time collaborator Andy Wilman, the next chapter is nearly here. Wilman, who has worked with Clarkson for decades across Top Gear, The Grand Tour and now Clarkson’s Farm, said series five should be out in just a few weeks. But it was his comments about a possible Christmas special that are likely to stir even more excitement among the show’s fanbase.

Speaking on the Extraordinary Life Stories podcast, Wilman described one particular festive storyline as one of the best scenes he has ever worked on. He explained that there is a sequence set around Christmas time at the pub, during a quieter period on the farming calendar, which carries what he called a Vicar of Dibley Christmas special feel. In other words, rather than focusing on heavy farm work, the moment appears to lean into character, humour and the kind of seasonal chaos that Clarkson’s Farm has increasingly become known for.

According to Wilman, the sequence centres on Clarkson wanting to create a Santa’s grotto at the pub. That idea leads to a meeting with Charlie Ireland, where Clarkson lays out what he wants to do. Wilman said the exchange was so entertaining that both he and the editor looked at each other and felt they were watching one of the best pieces of television they had ever made. He suggested viewers will understand exactly why once it finally airs.

The storyline does not end there. Wilman also revealed that Clarkson and Kaleb Cooper go on to build the grotto together, a setup that already sounds perfectly suited to the show’s style. Their on-screen partnership has become one of Clarkson’s Farm’s strongest ingredients, mixing Kaleb’s practical farming instincts with Clarkson’s larger-than-life ideas and frequent misjudgments. Wilman added that Kaleb’s take on the creation of mankind during the sequence was blindingly brilliant, hinting at the kind of offbeat humour fans have come to expect from him.

The remarks are likely to fuel even more anticipation around series five, which was already highly awaited following the success of the previous seasons. Clarkson’s Farm has built a loyal following not only because of its comedy, but because it has also managed to present a surprisingly honest portrait of British farming life. Beneath the arguments, mishaps and eccentric plans, the show has consistently highlighted the pressures facing farmers, from weather and rising costs to regulation and land management.

A Christmas special would represent a natural next step for the programme, especially now that Clarkson’s pub offers an additional setting beyond the farm. It would also give the series a chance to lean further into its strongest asset: the chemistry between its cast. Clarkson, Kaleb, Charlie and Lisa have each carved out distinct roles within the show, and bringing them together for a festive storyline could easily become one of its most memorable episodes.

For now, Prime Video has yet to make a formal announcement about the Christmas special, but Wilman’s comments strongly suggest that something festive is being prepared behind the scenes. And with series five now said to be only weeks away, viewers may not have to wait long before seeing the next chapter of life at Diddly Squat — and perhaps a very unusual Santa’s grotto — unfold on screen.
