Clarkson’s Farm favourite Harriet Cowan opens up after painful farm accident left lasting damage

Harriet Cowan, one of the newer faces to join Clarkson’s Farm, has spoken more openly about an off-screen accident that left her needing hospital treatment earlier this year.

The 24-year-old farmer from Derbyshire appeared in the latest season of the Prime Video series after stepping in to help Jeremy Clarkson while Kaleb Cooper was away on tour. Although her time on screen was relatively brief, Harriet quickly made an impression on viewers and became a popular addition to the cast during her stint at Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington, Oxfordshire.

Now, months after the incident first happened, Harriet has reflected on the accident in more detail. Back in February, she revealed on Instagram that she had been taken to hospital following an accident involving a log splitter. At the time, she explained that it had been a difficult week and said she had undergone surgery after injuring her finger. She also thanked the team at Pulvertaft Hand Clinic for their care, while noting that lambing season was beginning despite the setback.

Harriet has since revisited the incident in an interview with The Times, published on Wednesday, April 15. Looking back, she described it as a nasty accident that happened earlier in the year when a log came out of the splitter and struck her finger. She said the injury left lasting damage and explained that the finger will not fully return to normal.

Even so, Harriet’s comments were delivered with the same practical, dry humour that many viewers have come to associate with life on the farm. In the interview, she also joked that she does not have a proper nail on the finger beside it either, adding that a sheep had been responsible for that earlier mishap. The remark offered a reminder of just how physically demanding everyday farm work can be, with unexpected injuries often becoming part of the job.

Her latest update is likely to resonate with Clarkson’s Farm fans who appreciated the calm, capable presence she brought to the series. Harriet may only have appeared for part of the season, but her contribution stood out, particularly as she helped keep things moving during one of the farm’s busier periods.

The timing of her comments also comes as excitement builds around the show’s return. Clarkson’s Farm is set to be back on screen next month on Prime Video, with series five arriving after filming wrapped in September 2025.

For Harriet, the accident was clearly a painful interruption rather than a defining moment. If anything, her willingness to speak about it so matter-of-factly only reinforces the resilience that helped make her such a memorable part of the Clarkson’s Farm world.
