What is Charlie Ireland’s job on Clarkson’s Farm?
Charlie Ireland has been a firm fixture on Clarkson’s Farm for years – and here’s what we know about his job
Charlie Ireland was left heartbroken by Jeremy’s announcement.
The fifth series of Clarkson’s Farm drew to a sombre close on Prime Video after Jeremy Clarkson revealed his devastating prostate cancer diagnosis, reports the Mirror.
Jeremy broke the news to his close friends and Diddly Squat Farm colleagues Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland, who were visibly shaken by the unexpected revelation.
The former Top Gear presenter admitted he had been aware of the cancer since May, raising the subject during a meeting in which they were discussing the timing of the harvest in June and July.
Both Kaleb and Charlie were left speechless, with Kaleb unable to hide his disbelief as he said: “No, you haven’t. Where?”
Jeremy responded: “Where it is, is of no concern of anybody. I’ve known since May.”
As the gravity of the news sank in, an emotional Kaleb said: “Look after yourself, you go and do… if you need anything just ring.”
An equally stunned and distressed Charlie added: “Well, I just wish you a very, very speedy recovery.”
Many viewers are curious to learn more about Charlie’s role on the programme, so here’s everything you need to know.
What is Charlie’s job on Clarkson’s Farm?
Charlie is an agricultural consultant, British agronomist and land agent, serving as a managing partner of the farming enterprise Ceres Rural.
Ceres Rural is a leading rural consultancy providing advice and business solutions to farmers and landowners.
The company operates offices in Norwich, Oxford, and Saffron Walden, offering its services to clients across the South, South East and East of England. According to his biography on Ceres Rural’s website: “Charlie has 20 years of experience providing leading farm management and consultancy advice to clients across the West and South East of England. He specialises in farm management and strategic planning. Implementing the plans is the exciting part of the job, making a real difference to the future of a business.
“Charlie is a registered agricultural valuer, qualified agronomist ICM and BETA and has been a local board member of the GWCT. Charlie advises a number of high profile and high net worth clients, including Jeremy Clarkson.
“He loves spending time with his family and will soon struggle to come to terms with the fact his sons are faster, stronger and hit a cricket ball further than he can!”.
As viewers will be well aware, Charlie is invariably on hand whenever Jeremy faces significant financial decisions at Diddly Squat.
Regrettably, he frequently delivers unwelcome news, which has earned him the rather ironic nickname of ‘Cheerful Charlie’.
As witnessed in Season 5, Charlie assessed Jeremy’s fields alongside him, which had disappointingly yielded little mustard and onions following a difficult season.
He disclosed that the wheat was “quite shrivelled” and looked “a bit rubbish” as he presented some grains to the camera.
Nevertheless, throughout his time on Clarkson’s Farm, Charlie has firmly established himself as a beloved favourite amongst the show’s audience. Charlie proved highly supportive of Jeremy’s technological farming innovations and enhancements at the farm, including the AgBot and the FarmDroid, which improved efficiency at Diddly Squat.
