Farmhand Gerald, instantly recognisable by his signature mullet hairstyle, has been a constant presence on Clarkson’s Farm from the very beginning and has helped with combine harvesting and constructing the farm walls.
His pronounced West Country accent has resulted in Jeremy finding him difficult to understand, which has evolved into a recurring gag throughout the programme.
According to farmer and BBC Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, who has previously encountered the Clarkson’s Farm star, Gerald speaks perfectly well and suggested the show exaggerated his accent for comedic effect. For those curious about Gerald and Kaleb sharing the surname Cooper – the two farmhands are not related, and it’s purely coincidental.
During a previous series of Clarkson’s Farm, the team joked about Chipping Norton being populated with numerous people bearing the surname Cooper who had no family connection whatsoever.
In Season 3 of Clarkson’s Farm, Gerald received a prostate cancer diagnosis and subsequently underwent treatment.

Fortunately, Gerald is now cancer-free, having posted an update on X (formerly Twitter) in 2024, informing fans about his health status.
