Gold Rush

Tyler Mahoney & Parker Found GOLD | Building a DIY Sluice Box & Testing Rich Paydirt

La Paz Province — In a breakthrough moment for a team of international prospectors, a field test run on a remote Bolivian claim has yielded gold-rich pay dirt rivaling some of the best ground in the Yukon. After constructing a makeshift but effective sluice box, the team ran a yard of pay and recovered an estimated 0.5 grams of gold, confirming the site’s untapped mining potential.

“This ground is as rich as Parker’s Yukon claim,” one team member said. “And with setup and running costs here about a third of what they are in Canada, this site could mean millions more in profit.”

From Panning to Proof

Panning in the creek offered early hints, but the team knew they needed more accurate data. “Panning’s great for prospecting,” said Parker Schnabel, overseeing operations. “But to understand mining potential, we needed a proper test—and that meant building a working sluice.”

They built the sluice box on-site, using affordable materials and quick teamwork. Fitted with simple handles for mobility and AstroTurf to trap fine gold, the setup proved surprisingly effective.

“We probably got about a third of a gram per yard,” Schnabel said. “That’s exactly what we average in the Yukon—and we’ve barely scratched the surface here.”

Gold in the Gutters, Heart in the Game

The test run involved the entire team—Danny, Diego, Tyler, and Parker—shoveling, filming, and managing the sluice box with a shared sense of excitement and urgency. At one point, the crew even joked the sluice was “heavy” because it was “full of gold”—and for once, the joke rang true.

“We worked together today better than ever,” said team member Tyler Mahoney. “It feels like the first time we really clicked as a four.”

A Golden Opportunity

Though the team only processed just over a yard of material, the results were impressive enough to warrant further exploration. “If the deeper layers are anything like this, we could be sitting on a gold mine,” said Schnabel. “Literally.”

With coarse gold typically settling deeper in pay layers, the prospectors are eager to dig further down. More importantly, the landowner has expressed openness to negotiating a mining deal—something increasingly rare in the region.

“This might be the most promising ground we’ve seen so far,” Schnabel added. “It’s worth a real shot.”

What’s Next?

The team plans to scale up testing and continue trenching deeper. If consistent results follow, a full-scale mining operation may soon be in the works—potentially turning a humble test creek into a million-dollar claim.

For now, the team is celebrating a rare win in the world of gold mining: good ground, good teamwork, and gold in the box.
