BREAKTHROUGH SEASON: STUNNING DISCOVERIES SHAKE OAK ISLAND LEGEND
OAK ISLAND, NOVA SCOTIA — As Season 12 of The Curse of Oak Island unfolds, the hunt for buried treasure is hotter than ever—and the discoveries are rewriting history books in real time.
With unrelenting heat, flooded tunnels, and vanishing patches of promising ground, the Oak Island team has faced one of their most intense seasons yet. But as the dig deepens, so do the mysteries.
Ancient Pottery and Iron Relics Found on Lot 5
One of the earliest surprises came from Lot 5, where a simple piece of ceramic revealed a complex story. With a purple-glazed rim and dark interior, experts believe this shard may date back to the 1600s, possibly of European origin—suggesting visitors were on Oak Island long before the infamous Money Pit was even dug.
Not far from the ceramic, a buried iron latch was discovered near a mysterious circular stone formation. Blacksmith experts dated the latch to pre-1840s, fueling speculation that it was part of a trap or sealed chamber, meant to protect or hide valuable contents.
Coins From Across the Ages and Oceans
Adding to the intrigue, the team unearthed four ancient coins, each telling a different story. One bore a faint image of a woman. Another showed an unusual chain-like design. Materials like copper, silver, tin, and even manganese were detected using advanced scanning, leading experts to speculate connections to Roman coins, French deniers, and even 13th-century Europe.
The fourth coin, found in excellent condition, appeared unmistakably Roman—offering further proof that Oak Island has hosted visitors from many eras and possibly different continents.
The Swamp’s Secrets: Ancient Trade or Shipwreck?
A return to the mysterious swamp area brought even more surprises. Using ROVs and old-fashioned diving, Tony Sampson recovered worked timber, clay pipes, and a coin-like object with a central hole—resembling ancient Chinese currency.
The findings near a large boulder, matched against Zena Halpern’s map, suggest that the swamp may have once served as a trading post or concealed cache site, possibly involving global interactions centuries ago.
Underground Voids and “Aladdin’s Cave”
At the Garden Shaft, crews faced flooding and collapsing tunnels, but also made one of the season’s most thrilling discoveries—a massive underground void, dubbed “Aladdin’s Cave.” With wooden structures and unusual soil chemistry revealed through fluorescent spectroscopy, the void might be the key to unlocking the mystery of the Money Pit.
Dr. Ian Spooner and his team’s soil analysis revealed unexpected traces of gold, metal, and ancient human activity, dating back even further than originally thought.
The Dam Yields a Giant Clue
Near the ancient stone dam, another bombshell surfaced. As excavation work cleared large rocks, a massive piece of coarse earthenware pottery—likely from England or Pennsylvania, circa 1770—was recovered. Experts say it’s the largest ceramic find in Oak Island’s history and may belong to early settlers or someone who reburied it.
What’s Next?
As the season races toward its climax, the Lagina brothers and their team remain energized by their progress. Each discovery inches them closer to the truth buried beneath centuries of mystery. Could they finally be on the verge of cracking the island’s greatest secrets?
Stay tuned. This story is far from over.
