Secret’s Out: Mark & Digger Bring in a New Player to Outsmart the Law!

Moonshine Smoke and Mountain Ghosts: Mark and Digger Outsmart the Law with a New Ace in Season 14, Episode 12

As spring breaks across Appalachia, the heat rises in more ways than one. With the law closing in and competition sharpening, Mark and Digger bet it all on a bold new recruit—and a fake still that sets the stage for one of the most cunning moonshine maneuvers yet.

Act I: Trouble in the Holler

In the misty dawn of the Appalachian mountains, Mark and Digger’s season is already on edge. A suspicious forest ranger has been sniffing around their holler, and fresh bootprints near their hidden still confirm their worst fears: someone’s getting close. They need help—and fast.

“We’re on thin ice this season, Mark,” Digger warns.
“I got a feeling this spring’s going to be one to remember,” Mark mutters, eyes scanning the treeline.

Act II: Enter Jesse May Tucker—The New Wild Card

Two days later, at a rundown diner off Route 29, a new player steps into the game. Jesse May Tucker, a 28-year-old mechanic with moonshine in her blood and probation on her record, meets with the duo. She’s Digger’s cousin—tough, smart, and unpredictable.

“You want someone to stir mash or outwit Johnny Law?” she asks.
Mark grins: “Both.”

Despite her past in a chop shop ring, her talents—especially with engines and wiring—could be exactly what they need.

Act III: Operation Possum—The Bait and the Bunker

The plan: misdirection.

Jesse, Mark, and Digger build a decoy still in a barn marked for demolition across county lines. It’s a theatrical setup—fake mash barrels, smoke generators, and a dummy boiler rigged to run hot and loud.

Meanwhile, the real still is relocated underground—to a secret cellar on Jesse’s land, accessible only through a camouflaged chicken coop.

Digger grumbles about Jesse’s modern ways, but when she rigs a gravity-fed mash system using underground piping, even he has to admit:
“You’re a moonshiner after my own heart.”

Act IV: Smoke and Mirrors

The night of the big play, law enforcement bites the bait. Ranger Clem Hartley storms the fake still.

“We got smoke—still’s hot!” one officer shouts.

But it’s a trap. The barrels are filled with water and rotting corn. Clem rages, empty-handed.

Back at the real site, Mark, Digger, and Jesse cheer, watching the raid unfold on a grainy TV hooked to a radio scanner. But the celebration is cut short—another patrol car is heading toward Jesse’s property.

Act V: The Chase Is On

Jesse springs into action.

She jumps on her four-wheeler, laying false tracks and scattering empty jars to divert the law. Meanwhile, Mark and Digger work fast, tearing down the still, dumping mash into hidden trenches.

Jesse intercepts the patrol, pretending to be a stranded mechanic.
“Dang near flipped—y’all got a winch?” she says casually.

The officer, none the wiser, stops to help.

Back in the woods, Mark and Digger kill the lights and hide the last of their gear.

Act VI: A Legacy Reinvented

Under cover of night, the crew regroups. Tired, sweating, but victorious, they raise jars of their first batch—apple pie shine with a fiery bite.

“To outsmartin’ the law,” Mark toasts.
“To the wildest gearhead this side of the Smokies,” Digger adds.

Jesse raises her jar with a crooked grin.
“You think I passed the test?”
Mark chuckles: “You rewrote the whole dang book.”

Closing Narration: In the Hollows, the Craft Evolves

As the moon rises over the Smoky Mountains, the still bubbles quietly once more.

“In the hollows of Appalachia, tradition runs deep—but survival takes innovation. With new blood in the game and the law closing in, Mark and Digger prove once again: Moonshining ain’t just a craft… it’s a legacy.”
