Tyler Mahoney Redefines the Gold Trade: Fair Pay, Big Risks, and a Global Vision
Goldfields, Australia — In the rugged heart of Australia’s gold country, gold prospector and entrepreneur Tyler Mahoney is quietly revolutionizing the gold trade — one gram at a time.
With deep roots in prospecting and a passion for ethical business, Mahoney isn’t just digging for gold. She’s digging for justice — giving remote prospectors a fair price for their hard-earned gold and offering international buyers something rare: trust, transparency, and true Aussie gold.
“I’m a prospector myself,” Mahoney says. “I know how much work goes into finding even a single gram. So I pay above the standard rate — even spot price or more — because that’s what it’s worth.”
Paying More Than Fair
While many gold dealers pay based on purity, often deducting heavily, Mahoney takes a different approach: she pays spot price on total weight, regardless of purity. That means a 10-gram nugget with 90% purity earns the prospector the full value of 10 grams — something virtually unheard of in the trade.
“Ask any prospector I work with — they’ve never been paid this much for their gold,” Mahoney explains.
This isn’t just a nice gesture. It’s a calculated, fair approach designed to bridge the gap between off-grid miners in Australia’s outback and eager buyers around the world — many of whom want authentic, ethical Australian gold but don’t have access to the source.
Small Margins, Big Trust
So how does she make a profit?
After purchasing gold for $110 a gram, Mahoney sells it for around $135. But after 10% GST, PayPal/Stripe fees, and business expenses (including website hosting, bookkeeping, insurance, shipping, and fuel), she nets just around $6 profit per gram.
“That’s not much — especially when you consider the time, risk, and logistics involved,” she admits. “But I’m not in this to get rich fast. I’m in it to do it right.”
Mahoney’s honesty and dedication have earned her a loyal international customer base. Many are return buyers who value the integrity and peace of mind that come with purchasing from someone who truly respects the process — and the people behind it.
More Than Just a Business
Tyler isn’t just a gold buyer. She’s a mobile service provider, traveling deep into the bush, including Indigenous communities, to buy gold directly from prospectors who often have no internet or access to traditional markets.
“A lot of these folks have no idea how to ship gold overseas, let alone negotiate a fair price,” she says. “I give them that opportunity.”
She also uses her platform to educate buyers, reminding them that gold is not a get-rich-quick scheme — it’s a long-term asset, a symbol of value and heritage.
Fighting Criticism With Results
Not everyone supports Mahoney’s unconventional approach. She’s dealt with years of online trolls — including one persistent critic who frequently posts on her videos.
“He’s been at it for years. It’s weirdly obsessive,” she says. “But if he thinks this is easy, he’s welcome to try it himself.”
Mahoney isn’t fazed. With a growing base of happy customers and a clear sense of purpose, she’s focused on building trust, empowering remote communities, and bringing Aussie gold to the world — the right way.
