OAK ISLAND, NS — The mystery of Oak Island continues to deepen as Rick Lagina and his determined team uncover a series of startling clues during their most recent excavations on Lot 13 in the island’s northeastern swamp region.
Their latest findings include a distinct layer of blue clay, identical to samples unearthed during a historic 1804 dig. Experts believe this specific clay, known for its impermeability, could suggest deliberate engineering efforts by early explorers—perhaps to seal or conceal underground structures.
Further intrigue was added by renewed excavation of the so-called “Eye of the Swamp,” a circular stone structure long debated by researchers. Beneath it, the same unusual blue clay was discovered, reinforcing theories that the swamp itself may have been intentionally constructed or altered centuries ago.
Adding weight to the mystery, the team also uncovered an iron staple embedded in one of the deeper layers—suggesting past human activity far more complex than previously believed. In addition, wood samples from nearby boreholes tested positive for trace amounts of gold, further fueling long-standing legends of hidden treasure buried beneath the island.
