TYLER MAHONEY TEAMS UP WITH PARKER SCHNABEL FOR AUSTRALIAN EXPEDITION
In a surprising twist of international collaboration, Parker Schnabel, famed gold miner and star of Gold Rush, is planning a bold new adventure — this time in the unforgiving outback of Australia. And he’s found the perfect guide in fourth-generation prospector Tyler Mahoney.
The idea came during a casual conversation between Parker and Tyler’s father, who was too busy to take on the role of local guide but knew just the right person: his daughter. Enter Tyler, a seasoned prospector with deep roots in Western Australia’s gold-rich terrain.
“I actually have my own business teaching other miners and prospectors how to find gold,” Tyler told Parker. “I’ve got contacts in all the different states. I could work something out.”
Parker, looking for a trustworthy guide with industry connections, extended a rare offer. “Would you be interested in coming over here and checking the Yukon out?” he asked. Tyler’s response was instant: “That’d be awesome.”
Their meeting in Dawson City was filled with optimism, laughter, and gold talk. “She’s definitely the type of person we need,” Parker later said. “Switched on, passionate about mining — it’s rare to find someone like that.”
The duo discussed mining differences between the Yukon and Australia. While the Yukon requires wet processing, much of Australia’s gold is extracted through dry blowing — a method Tyler says isn’t perfect but recovers far more fine gold than traditional metal detecting.
“I love the red dirt. I love being out bush. I love gold,” Tyler said with a smile. “And you need to — otherwise you’d go crazy out there.”
The cultural exchange didn’t stop at mining. At a Dawson City bar, the crew initiated Tyler into a local rite of passage — the infamous Sour Toe Cocktail, a drink garnished with a real, mummified human toe. Despite a moment of hesitation, Tyler downed the drink, cementing her place as one of the team.
“You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow, but your lips must touch this gnarly toe,” the bartender recited as the bar erupted in cheers.
As the team prepares to take on Australia’s punishing outback — where temperatures reach up to 130°F and towns like Hall’s Creek are nicknamed “Hell’s Crack” — the question remains: can the Yukon crew survive the land Down Under?
For her part, Tyler’s confident: “I don’t think they know how hot it really gets. But I’ll drink them all under the table.”
With trust, grit, and a shared love for gold, Parker and Tyler may be about to strike not just pay dirt — but gold mining history.
