A Tearful First Night Home
In a heartfelt June 28th interview with Lara Trump, Todd Chrisley opened up about the emotional aftermath of his and wife Julie Chrisley’s return home following their release from federal prison. Reflecting on the powerful moment their family was reunited in Tennessee, Todd shared a vulnerable story about their 19-year-old son, Grayson.
“The first night, he came in and said, ‘Can I sleep with you tonight?’” Todd recalled. “I said, ‘You can.’” Grayson admitted he was scared to fall asleep, fearing that when he woke up, his parents might be gone again. “I feel like I’m just going to wake up in the morning and they’re not going to be here,” he told his father.
Grayson Shares What Matters Most
Grayson also spoke about the deep appreciation he now holds for simply being together as a family. “You take those times for granted when they are home. And then when you realize one day it could be there and the next day it’s not — you know, it means just a little bit more.”
From Prison to Pardon
Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to 12 and 7 years respectively for bank and tax fraud. However, on May 28th, both were released after receiving full presidential pardons from former President Donald Trump. The news came as a surprise even to Todd himself.
Recalling the moment he found out, Todd said, “This guy stops and goes, ‘Man, I think you just got fired.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, okay,’ and kept walking.” It wasn’t until a corrections officer confirmed the pardon that the reality set in. “He said, ‘Todd, you just got pardoned. They sent me down here to make sure you’re okay.’ And I said, ‘Well, they don’t need to be worrying about me now — hell, if I’m pardoned, I’m great.’”
A New Chapter Begins
The Chrisleys’ return home marks the beginning of a new chapter for the family, one that’s rooted in gratitude, togetherness, and healing. For Grayson, having his parents back isn’t just a relief — it’s everything.
“Really just being together,” he said simply. “That’s the best part.”
