The long-running Discovery Channel show Moonshiners has once again stirred controversy after two of its stars, Mark Ramsey and Eric “Digger” Manes, were shown being arrested in the latest episode of Season 14, which aired on January 14th, 2025.
Since its debut in 2011, Moonshiners has faced criticism over its portrayal of illegal liquor production in the Appalachian region. Many viewers have questioned how the network could legally air footage of what appears to be unlawful activity. While critics have long argued that the show does not actually depict real illegal distilling, the recent episode has reignited debate.
According to the episode, Mark and Digger sought to expand their operations by teaming up with Kentucky master distiller Bruiser Martin. Bruiser, who prefers traditional distilleries, initially clashed with Mark and Digger over production methods but ultimately impressed the pair with a high-quality bourbon mash yielding an alcohol content of 120 proof.
The partnership seemed promising until trouble struck. In a preview clip, Mark and Digger voice their fears that their entire operation could be seized, resulting in major financial losses. The footage then shows the two men being led away in handcuffs and placed in the back of a police vehicle. However, the episode leaves viewers guessing, offering no confirmation on whether the arrest was directly related to illegal moonshine production or another matter altogether.
