Cotswolds locals have one issue with Jeremy Clarkson

Locals living near Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire have outlined one problem with Jeremy Clarkson.

The former Top Gear and Grand Tour host originally purchased the Chadlington farm near Chipping Norton in 2008.

It has since been the focus of the hit Prime Video show Clarkson’s Farm, which has four series to date.

Yet living in the Cotswolds close to a celebrity star isn’t all that it is cracked up to be, according to some of the locals.

Mr Clarkson’s popular show on Amazon’s streaming service has been cited as a contributing factor in local resistance to Rainier Developments’ plans for 350 new homes in the area.

A Chipping Norton native and bricklayer, Scott Sumners, has expressed that celebrities have diminished his hometown’s quality of life.

Whilst speaking to the Daily Mail, the 56 years old recalled an exchange he saw at a petrol station between a fellow local and Mr Clarkson.

Mr Sumners said: “A man went up to him and said ‘hello Jeremy’, but he just replied ‘That’s Mr Clarkson to you.’

“I didn’t like that. There’s no need to be rude.”

Similarly, others living in the area who were swayed to move there are now rethinking their decision.

Bianca moved to Chipping Norton after watching the popular farming show, settling close to where the proposed Rainier development is.

She revealed: “I moved here because of Jeremy, but I’m probably going back to London.

“There’s literally nothing here. I feel like I probably didn’t do enough research. I probably should have stayed here in a hotel for a week first to see what it was like.”

The tourist footfall has been cited as another issue with the planning proposal currently being considered.

West Oxfordshire District Council has received a scoping report from Rainier Developments ahead of the potential planning application for 350 homes.
