Moonshiners Finale: Mark & Digger’s Daring Escape and Game-Changing Innovations Rock the Backwoods
The hills were alive with more than just the sound of stills this week as the Moonshiners Season 14 finale delivered one of the most nail-biting episodes yet — complete with law enforcement chases, ingenious new distilling methods, and a bittersweet tribute to one of the craft’s most legendary figures.
Mark & Digger: A Cat-and-Mouse Game Turns Dangerous
For veteran outlaws Mark Ramsay and Digger Manes, the stakes have never been higher. Weeks of suspicious sightings turned deadly serious when the duo realized they were being tailed by a mysterious pickup truck — and then, unmistakably, by the county sheriff.
With law enforcement tightening its noose, Mark and Digger called in trusted allies Kelly and Amanda to help dismantle their secret still site and remove every trace of illegal operations. But the clock ran out. Captain David Robertson — a relentless presence in their lives for years — finally caught up to them.
Handcuffed in the back of a patrol car as their truck was searched, it seemed the end had come. But thanks to a clever loophole left behind by their late associate Kenny Law — a carefully drilled hole in the copper still found in their truck — the equipment was deemed inoperable under local code, buying the pair enough wiggle room to dodge serious charges for now.
“Kenny always said you gotta outthink ‘em, not outrun ‘em,” Digger was overheard telling a crew member off camera, clearly shaken but defiant.
Mike & Jerry’s Bold New Distillation Breakthrough
While Mark and Digger were dodging the law, fellow moonshiners Mike Cochrell and Jerry Benson were busy reinventing the craft altogether. Forced to abandon their original still site, the pair engineered a pioneering column still capable of producing two proofs of liquor at once — a move that stunned even seasoned distillers.
By cleverly using a sugar wash to create a neutral base spirit, they simultaneously infused two seasonal flavors — eggnog shine and peppermint shine — right at the tail end of the distillation. The method not only saved precious time but positioned the outlaws one step ahead of licensed distilleries that often struggle with small-batch flavor infusions.
“It’s all about stayin’ ahead of the big boys,” Mike quipped. “If we can make it quicker and smoother, we ain’t goin’ nowhere.”
A Bittersweet Farewell: Kenny & Tickle’s Lavender Experiment
The finale also brought a heartfelt goodbye to Kenny Law, the late legend whose ingenuity shaped many an outlaw operation. In one of his final collaborations, Kenny joined Steven Ray Tickle and Henry Law to help aviation trailblazer and distilling newcomer Danielle Parton craft a lavender-infused moonshine — a risky experiment due to the volatile nature of essential oils.
Using a mini submarine pot still and Kenny’s signature cautious precision, the team redistilled Danielle’s spirit into a smooth, aromatic lavender shine that wowed everyone involved.
While Danielle hinted at launching a legal version of the unique spirit, Tickle teased that the same floral recipe might soon be making quiet rounds through the backwoods — the perfect nod to Kenny’s rebellious legacy.
Outlaws, Innovation & Unfinished Business
The Season 14 finale reminded fans that moonshining is more than an illicit craft — it’s a relentless dance between heritage and modern ingenuity, risk and reward. From Mark and Digger’s narrow escape to Mike and Jerry’s bold new methods, the Moonshiners proved once again that the spirit of Appalachian distilling is alive and evolving.
One thing is certain: the hills may go quiet for now, but the next chapter promises new recipes, new risks, and plenty more cat-and-mouse games in the shadows of the Smokies.
