Clarkson’s Farm Crisis Deepens as Jeremy Says He’s Powerless to Fix It

The TV presenter is no stranger to revealing the perils of running a farm, but even he claims this latest problem might be a bridge too far

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has confessed there is “nothing he can do” as he offers a glimpse into daily life at his Diddly Squat farm in Oxfordshire. Having purchased the farm in 2008 and taking over its management 11 years later, Jeremy has witnessed a dramatic rise in livestock numbers.

Following the debut of Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon Prime in 2021, viewers have been able to watch the broadcaster navigate the everyday hurdles of farm management. His farm shop remains a popular tourist attraction for die-hard fans of his show.

In a column for The Sun, Jeremy disclosed how one particular problem has proved rather overwhelming for him. He revealed that while his dogs behave impeccably around most farm animals, he acknowledged there is “nothing he can do” regarding their pursuit of deer.

Outlining his sense of helplessness when they spot nearby deer, he stated: “But there is nothing I can do to stop them chasing deer. I spend half my life giving it the full ‘Fenton’ as they whizz about in a hopeless quest to catch something that’s way faster than they are.”

The Clarkson’s Farm star had been exploring plans to utilise a recently developed contraption designed to teach guide dogs not to pursue squirrels.

While considering creating his own adaptation – substituting the squirrel with a deer – he acknowledged his dogs’ breed might pose challenges, observing that his Labradors would probably devour and demolish his makeshift toy, reports Gloucestershire Live.

He quipped: “I shall buy a toy deer and strap it to a radio-controlled car. And see what happens. My only worry is that they’re Labradors. So if they catch it, they’d eat the toy. And the car as well.”

Jeremy’s “hopeless” admission came at the same time he hit out at “corporate bullies” and red tape following a snap inspection to his pub The Farmer’s Dog. As reported in Belfast Live, he claimed Thames Water and local council officials came to his establishment without warning before receiving an eight-page list of demands to upgrade his pub.

“This is exactly the sort of corporate bullying that pubs really don’t need right now,” he wrote. “If they’re now going to be hectored by water companies to change the flow rate of their taps, there won’t be any pubs left at all.”

Before his stint on Clarkson’s Farm, Jeremy first gained fame through Top Gear on the BBC. The show, which debuted in 1977, amassed a large fanbase with its blend of car reviews, nail-biting challenges, and celebrity guest spots.

After his tenure on the show concluded in 2015, it wasn’t long before he was back in the driving seat with co-stars James May and Richard Hammond for another hit Amazon show, The Grand Tour.
