“Best Place in the World”: Emily Clarkson Opens Up About Her Emotional Connection to the Isle of Man
Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter, Emily Clarkson, has shared a heartfelt reflection about her deep connection to the Isle of Man — a place she calls her “best place in the world.” The 30-year-old writer and podcaster opened up to her 455,000 Instagram followers about returning to the island that holds generations of family history and emotional significance.
A Return to Her Roots
Emily, the eldest daughter of Top Gear and Clarkson’s Farm star Jeremy Clarkson, posted a serene photograph of Castletown beach with the caption:
“And now I’m back on the best place in the world and can breathe out.”
The message, simple but poignant, resonated with many of her followers, who praised her openness and vulnerability. Emily explained that the Isle of Man has always been a place of peace and grounding for her — a retreat from the pressures of public life and the relentless pace of modern media.
Later, she shared a second post showing herself running joyfully into the cold sea, wearing a bright green swimsuit. She revealed that cold-water swimming has become an important ritual for her mental health and emotional balance.
“Hormones kicking my ass, I’ve been in a weird place this last week,” she wrote. “My Grannie got in the sea every day March through October — she said it was medicinal, which she was obviously right about, because Castletown beach is now my most calming place ever.”
A Family Legacy on the Isle of Man
Emily’s connection to the Isle of Man runs deep through her maternal line. Her mother, Frances Cain, is Manx, and Emily grew up visiting the island regularly throughout her childhood. Frances’s father — Emily’s grandfather — was Robert Henry Cain, one of the island’s most decorated war heroes.
Cain received the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the British armed forces, for his remarkable bravery during the Battle of Arnhem in World War II. After retiring from military service, he settled on the Isle of Man, where the Cain family became a respected part of the local community.
Robert Cain passed away in 1974 in Sussex, but his ashes were later interred in the family grave at Braddan Cemetery, ensuring that his legacy remains part of the island’s history.
Honoring Her Heritage
For Emily, returning to the Isle of Man is more than just a holiday — it’s a way of reconnecting with her heritage and honoring the generations that came before her. In her Instagram post, she shared that she had been invited to the island by the Visit Isle of Man Tourist Board, describing the experience as “amazing” and perfectly timed for her emotional well-being.
“Totally nuts,” she wrote, “but after coming here my whole life (my mum is Manx) we’ve been invited by the Tourist Board this week, which is amazing and has probably come just in the nick of time.”
Her posts were accompanied by a series of photos capturing the island’s natural beauty — the golden sands, rugged coastline, and tranquil sea — all of which highlighted why Emily considers it her ultimate place to unwind and recharge.
Building Her Own Voice
Although she is often recognized as Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter, Emily has carved out an impressive career in her own right. A writer and advocate for self-acceptance, she is the author of the book Can I Speak to Someone in Charge?, which tackles societal pressures and modern expectations placed on women.

She also co-hosts the hit podcast Should I Delete That? alongside body-positivity influencer Alex Light. The show explores themes such as body image, mental health, and online culture, offering honest, often humorous conversations about the challenges faced by young women today.
Her work has positioned her as a leading voice in contemporary discussions about self-worth and digital authenticity — a stark contrast to her father’s world of fast cars and farm life. Yet, despite their differences, Emily has often spoken with affection and humor about her famous dad, maintaining a warm and respectful relationship.
Finding Peace in Familiar Waters
Emily’s latest posts show a woman embracing both her roots and her resilience. Her return to the Isle of Man — a place filled with family memories — served as a much-needed pause amid the chaos of daily life.
As she put it herself:
“Castletown beach is now my most calming place ever.”
With her mother’s heritage, her grandfather’s courage, and her own openness about mental health, Emily Clarkson’s visit to the island wasn’t just a trip — it was a homecoming filled with reflection, healing, and gratitude.
And for fans who follow her journey, it’s a reminder that even in the most public of lives, the quietest places often hold the greatest strength.
