Clarkson Admits Frustration as Kaleb Cooper Leaves Him ‘Exasperated’
Jeremy Clarkson has admitted that he is ‘exasperated’ by his Clarkson’s Farm co-star Kaleb Cooper as he reveals some of the ‘difficulties’ the pair have had in communicating
TV icon Jeremy Clarkson has confessed that one aspect of his co-star Kaleb Cooper on Clarkson’s Farm leaves him feeling “exasperated”.
Kaleb has been assisting on Jeremy’s Diddly Squat Farm since 2021, as the former Top Gear presenter attempts to understand the intricacies of running a working farm for the Amazon Prime series.
Jeremy, 65, interacts with his farm manager almost daily but admits “it’s often difficult to get a conversation going” due to Kaleb’s limited general knowledge.
While praising Kaleb’s farming expertise, Jeremy finds it “exasperating” that he is unfamiliar with legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac.
Kaleb also doesn’t recognise actor Robert De Niro or composer Mozart and has never seen a James Bond film, reports the Express.
In his new book, Diddly Squat: The Farmer’s Dog, Jeremy writes: “I see Kaleb Cooper, my farm manager, most days but it’s often difficult to get a conversation going.
“It’s not that he’s thick. He really isn’t. You can ask him how much diesel you’ll need in a 150-horsepower tractor to clear 40 bales from a nine-acre field and he’ll know in an instant.
“But he’s never heard of Robert De Niro. And he’s never watched a James Bond film.
“It transpired last week that’s he’s never heard of Fleetwood Mac, and I found this exasperating. He tried to argue that they were before his time. ‘Yes, but so was Mozart,’ I thundered. ‘Who’s Mozart?’ he replied.”
Kaleb emerged as the standout personality of the popular Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm, with viewers adoring the rapport between Jeremy and his youthful farmhand.
Throughout the programme, Kaleb primarily guides his employer on the technical aspects of operating machinery whilst assisting with countless duties across the agricultural property.
Kaleb has subsequently published several books and took a break from the programme during the fourth series to embark on a nationwide tour, presenting his solo performance, The World According to Kaleb. Harriet Cowan temporarily stepped in during his absence.
Despite their strong friendship, it appears Jeremy and Kaleb could hardly be more contrasting in numerous respects.
It seems the former Grand Tour presenter was rather unimpressed with Kaleb’s awareness of current affairs, implying that he’s only conscious of the conflict in Ukraine because of its effect on fertiliser costs.
Jeremy went on: “Naturally, he has little interest in world affairs. He is aware of the war in Ukraine but only because it affected the price of fertiliser. Gaza, though? He won’t have heard of that, and I think he’d struggle to name both candidates in the coming elections.
“He’s not even that clued up on events closer to home. Let’s not forget that when he met Rishi Sunak, he thought he was the president. And that his name was Ricky.”
