Clarkson makes heartbreaking goodbye to Diddly Squat ‘friends’

Jeremy Clarkson has shared a deeply emotional farewell to his beloved four-legged companions at Diddly Squat Farm, marking the end of a chapter that has touched both his life and the lives of countless fans.

The broadcaster, writer, and television personality, best known for Top Gear and The Grand Tour, has become equally recognised for his more recent venture into farming through the Amazon Prime hit series Clarkson’s Farm. Since purchasing his 1,000-acre plot of land in Chadlington, near Chipping Norton, in 2008, Clarkson has turned the farm into both a home and a new career path, one that has captured the public imagination and earned him new respect for shining a light on the struggles and triumphs of British farming.

Alongside his girlfriend Lisa Hogan and young farmer Kaleb Cooper, Clarkson’s on-screen team has expanded to include some unlikely stars—his two loyal fox red Labrador Retrievers, Arya and Sansa. The dogs, named after characters from the hugely popular Game of Thrones series, have been frequent companions on the farm and fan favourites in their own right.

Earlier this year, in July, Clarkson experienced one of the most joyful moments of farm life when Arya gave birth to a litter of 11 healthy puppies. Proudly stepping into the role of midwife, he helped deliver the newborns and later took to social media to share the news with his millions of followers. Posting around the same time as the Women’s Football Euros, he playfully compared the excitement of the puppies’ arrival to the Lionesses’ historic sporting victory.

He wrote: “Now I know you’ve all been enjoying the football but I’ve been rather busy, if I’m honest, because look what Arya’s done. Well done Lionesses, but really, really, really well done Arya.”

Over the following weeks, Clarkson continued to update fans with glimpses of the growing puppies, who quickly became a central part of life at Diddly Squat Farm. But, as all dog breeders know, the joy of new life inevitably leads to the bittersweet moment of saying goodbye.

This month, the last of Arya’s puppies was collected by its new family, leaving Clarkson heartbroken at the empty space they left behind. To mark the occasion, he once again turned to Instagram, sharing a video montage of the puppies accompanied by James Blunt’s emotional ballad You’re Beautiful.

The clip carried his farewell message: “Goodbye my puppies, goodbye my friends, we have loved you so much.”

Later, in a separate post, Clarkson expressed the mixture of pride and sadness he felt: “So happy the puppies are going to wonderful families. But God it’s sad to see them go.”

Fans flooded the comments with messages of support, with many admitting they, too, felt invested in the puppies’ journey after watching them grow online. For Clarkson, the departure of Arya’s litter marks not just the end of a joyful summer, but another reminder of the emotional highs and lows that come with farm life—a theme at the heart of his television series.

As Clarkson’s Farm prepares for its fifth season, it is clear that while the tractors, crops, and cows may drive the drama, it is moments like this—authentic, heartfelt, and profoundly human—that continue to endear Jeremy Clarkson and his farm to audiences around the world.
