Clarkson’s Farm fans worry after spotting ‘problem’ with series four

Jeremy Clarkson may have made things a lot worse for one project featured in his Amazon Prime show, Clarkson’s Farm, as fans wonder whether it would have turned out differently

A deadline set by Jeremy Clarkson in the latest series of the hit Amazon Prime show “made things worse”, according to fans. Viewers believe the Clarkson’s Farm host had made the newest additions to the farm and pub much trickier than it needed to be by adding an arbitrary deadline.

Fans discussing Clarkson’s decision on the r/ClarksonsFarm Reddit page were worried the Amazon Prime show presenter would not see the deadline to the end. One person shared they were “genuinely worried” for Clarkson throughout watching the fourth season, and were concerned the deadline was a little too tough on him and the team.

Though the worries were well-founded, Clarkson and his team managed to get over the line with the opening of The Farmer’s Dog. One person asked: “Would all of Jeremy’s Pub problems been resolved if he hadn’t chosen an arbitrary deadline on the pub instead of waiting to open when it was ready?

“Was this completely unnecessary stress inducer? I was genuinely worried that Clarkson would have a heart attack before Season 4 wrapped up.”

Another user suggested a deadline was necessary so the team could see how far off they would be with renovations and preparations. They wrote: “Any and every pub or restaurant should have a soft open with reduced capacity to catch exactly the kind of issues he encountered on opening night.

“It helps If the two people you hire to advise you actually seem to know about running a pub, not just decorating one, too.”

Another user agreed, adding: “Soft opening or not, it’s obvious he would have been better off doing it at any point of the year other than harvest.” But a third user suggested a deadline was necessary as it would have meant never getting the place finished if they had continued extending it.

They wrote: “In a project like that, if you don’t choose a deadline, it never gets finished. The question was would the problems have been avoided if he hadn’t set an arbitrary deadline and just waited until it was ready?

“Answer is possibly, but he’d have had a different problem. It wouldn’t have opened. Now should he have chosen a different arbitrary deadline…

“Yeah, but he was balancing competing commercial priorities and that wouldn’t have been as good for TV. Yes it did seem a bit asinine, but Jeremy’s public persona at least is asinine.”

Others believe the “very rushed” feeling for opening The Farmer’s Dog could have been avoided had Clarkson offered a smaller, soft launch to friends and family.

Someone else added: “Sure, but Clarkson wanted the end of August. He shifted it a week because it was the bank holiday weekend. If he’d allowed the extra week, as originally intended, a lot of the issues would have been resolved.”

One more person suggested: “I don’t think he had a soft opening with family and friends to iron out any issues that might have cropped up. It was very rushed and was probably meant to be to create more drama for the show.

“I don’t think they anticipated the sheer numbers of people who would visit though, which didn’t help.”
