clarkson's farm

Clarkson’s Farm star Jeremy Clarkson has revealed the secret to keeping his relationship with partner Lisa Hogan strong, even while working side by side on their hit Prime Video series.

The 65-year-old presenter, who has now led Clarkson’s Farm through four successful seasons, is best known for his decades at the wheel of Top Gear and The Grand Tour. But in recent years, it’s the daily challenges of life on his Oxfordshire property, Diddly Squat Farm, that have captured the imagination of fans worldwide. Alongside Clarkson in front of the cameras is his 26-year-old farming right-hand man Kaleb Cooper, and, importantly, his partner of eight years, Lisa Hogan, who frequently appears in scenes from the farm shop.

For Clarkson, the show has been a refreshing change of pace compared to the highly produced motoring spectacles that made him a household name. Speaking candidly, he explained: “It’s the real me on the farm show. There’s no Top Gear nonsense. It’s much more relaxing not to play a part.” That authenticity, both in farming and in his personal life, has been part of what makes the series such a runaway success.

When it comes to sharing both work and home life with Lisa, Clarkson insists the balance they’ve struck is key to keeping things running smoothly. Speaking to The Telegraph, he admitted: “It’s all good. It’s not like we’re doing the same thing all the time. I think it’s a happy way to live, to have breakfast together, go our separate ways, and then you’ve got plenty to talk about in the evening.”

This structure, Clarkson said, keeps their relationship fresh and conversations engaging. “You can go out for dinner and you don’t sit like normal old people, not talking to each other,” he quipped, highlighting how spending some time apart during the day means there’s always something new to discuss when they reconnect.

The couple, who were introduced at a party through mutual friends, have been inseparable since they began dating eight years ago. And while their bond has grown deeper, Hogan has been firm about what she does and doesn’t want from the relationship. Speaking in a 2022 interview with Fabulous magazine, the 52-year-old former actress revealed she had no interest in becoming “Mrs Clarkson” or starting a family with the presenter. “Mrs Clarkson? No, thank you. I like Lisa Hogan,” she said with a laugh. “We’re at a stage where we are not going to have kids. I’m just happy pootling along. I think because of our age, it’s much easier. You go, ‘God, is it you I end up with? OK, that’s it’.”

Both Clarkson and Hogan bring with them long personal histories. Clarkson has been married twice before—first to Alexandra James from 1989 to 1990, and later to Frances Cain, with whom he shares three children: Emily, 30, Finlo, 27, and Katya, 24. Hogan, meanwhile, was previously married for three decades to millionaire businessman Baron Steven Bentinck, with whom she also shares three children.

Hogan has admitted she was initially cautious about making her relationship with Clarkson official. After years of independence, she wanted to be certain the famously outspoken broadcaster was serious about settling into a committed partnership. “We’d both come out of quite long-term relationships, and I was really happy being single,” she explained. “So I was like, ‘If I’m not going to be single anymore, I don’t want to be with a messer’. There was a moment. I had given myself three months, but it was way before that when I thought, ‘OK, I really like this person’.”

Part of what keeps their relationship lively, Hogan says, is Clarkson’s sharp wit and sharp mind. “He has a laser brain and will take you down,” she teased. “And that’s where the fun and the challenge is with him, trying to take him down.”

With Clarkson busy running his farm, managing the Farmer’s Dog pub, and filming one of Prime Video’s most popular shows, and Hogan balancing her own work and family life, the couple’s ability to maintain their spark after nearly a decade together is perhaps as impressive as Clarkson’s unlikely reinvention from motoring journalist to farmer. Their story, much like Clarkson’s Farm itself, continues to resonate with audiences because of its blend of honesty, humour, and heart.
