Clarkson’s Farm star says ‘so sorry’ after sharing the ‘reality of farming’

Harriet Cowan, one of the breakout stars of Amazon Prime’s hit series Clarkson’s Farm, has apologised to fans after being forced to postpone the launch of her new YouTube career — thanks to an unexpected farmyard emergency.

The 24-year-old, who stepped in to help Jeremy Clarkson at Diddly Squat Farm while fan-favourite Kaleb Cooper was away on tour, recently revealed that she was taking her popularity beyond the show by launching her own channel, Harriet On The Farm.

Her debut video had been scheduled to premiere at 6pm on Sunday, August 31, with fans eagerly awaiting her first upload — a Q&A designed to introduce viewers to her new platform and give them a chance to get to know her better. But in a true reflection of the unpredictability of farming life, those plans went awry.

Taking to Instagram, Harriet explained what had happened. She wrote:

“UPDATE!!! Due to technical issues (the sheep got out) I haven’t been able to upload the video tonight so I’m rescheduling to tomorrow night at 7pm!!

“So sorry but this is the reality of farming!! Take it up with the sheep…”

Her refreshingly candid post quickly reassured fans, many of whom praised her for balancing her new on-screen projects with the chaotic demands of farm life. The rescheduled launch took place the following evening, on Monday, September 1 at 7pm, where her video finally went live.

From Nursing to Farming Fame

Harriet first appeared in the fourth series of Clarkson’s Farm and quickly proved a hit with viewers. Her straightforward, down-to-earth manner and clear passion for agriculture resonated with audiences who were eager to see a new face alongside Clarkson and his team.

Before her on-screen debut, Harriet worked as a nurse, juggling shifts in the NHS with her responsibilities on her family’s farm in Derbyshire. But after spending more time immersed in agriculture, she admitted she had well and truly “caught the farming bug.”

Speaking candidly to her followers, she revealed:

“It’s true, I am no longer nursing because it appears I got the bug. I’m going to do bank shifts and I’m still going to be working in the NHS, but yeah, just not daily.”

This bold decision to step away from nursing and dedicate herself to farming full-time has been met with support from her growing fan base, many of whom admire her commitment to rural life and the honesty with which she shares her journey.

A New Digital Chapter

Harriet’s YouTube channel, Harriet On The Farm, promises to provide fans with an authentic behind-the-scenes look at life on the farm. From day-in-the-life vlogs to farming tutorials, Q&A sessions, and appearances from her partner James, she hopes to capture both the joys and the challenges of agricultural work.

More importantly, she has made it clear that her goal is to create an uplifting and interactive online community. In a recent post, she explained:

“I just want it to be a positive environment where people can chat, and ask questions, and learn from it — that’s the base of what I want to do. And then hopefully it’ll grow into something where we’ve got a lovely little community.”

Given her existing popularity — Harriet already boasts nearly 800,000 followers on TikTok — her new venture is expected to attract a strong audience from the outset. Her blend of humour, relatability, and authentic farming content has already made her a social media favourite, and YouTube now offers her the chance to expand that reach even further.

A Rising Star of Farming Media

While Jeremy Clarkson remains the face of Clarkson’s Farm, Harriet Cowan’s rise highlights how the series has managed to shine a spotlight on real young farmers and their personal journeys. Her story — a young woman leaving behind a career in nursing to pursue a future in agriculture — has inspired many, particularly those curious about farming but uncertain about its challenges.

Now, with her YouTube channel underway despite its sheep-related hiccup, Harriet looks set to build a loyal digital following while continuing to grow her farming career.

For fans, the delayed launch was simply another reminder of the unpredictable, sometimes chaotic, but always entertaining world of farming — and of why Harriet has become such a beloved figure in the Clarkson’s Farm universe.
