Fans rally behind Jeremy Clarkson after Prime Video confirms new Grand Tour hosts

Fans have rallied around Jeremy Clarkson following a major announcement this week that signals a new chapter for one of his most recognisable television projects.

The 65-year-old presenter, best known for his work on Top Gear and Clarkson’s Farm, remains a prominent figure in British television. Away from the screen, he runs both Diddly Squat Farm and The Farmer’s Dog pub in Oxfordshire, ventures that have helped keep him in the public eye even as some of his long-running TV commitments draw to a close.

Clarkson’s career has also been closely tied to The Grand Tour, which he fronted alongside Richard Hammond and James May for eight years following its launch in 2016. The programme officially concluded in 2024 with a final special filmed across Zimbabwe and Botswana, titled The Grand Tour: One For The Road, bringing an end to the trio’s on-screen partnership in its familiar format.

This week, however, Prime Video confirmed it would continue the franchise with a refreshed line-up. Social media personality and train enthusiast Francis Bourgeois has been announced as one of three new presenters, joined by James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, in a move designed to introduce a different generation of hosts to the brand.

Clarkson was quick to respond publicly to the news. An official video shared on The Grand Tour’s Instagram account showed him giving his approval to the new presenters, suggesting a supportive handover rather than a clean break from the past.

Despite that endorsement, the announcement has divided viewers. While some welcomed the continuation of the show in a new form, others expressed concern that the absence of Clarkson, May and Hammond would fundamentally alter its appeal. Many fans took to social media to voice their loyalty to the original trio, arguing that their chemistry was central to the programme’s success.

One Instagram user wrote that while the show might feel different, it could still be worth watching if the original presenters remained involved behind the scenes. Another suggested that the trio themselves were the primary reason audiences tuned in, a sentiment echoed by several commenters who said the series would not feel the same without them. Others pointed to past examples, noting how viewing figures shifted after earlier format changes in similar motoring shows.

As the new line-up prepares to step into the spotlight, the reaction underlines just how strongly viewers continue to associate The Grand Tour with the presenters who helped define it—an attachment that remains powerful even as the franchise moves forward in a new direction.
