From Career Collapse to Comeback King: How Clarkson’s Farm Saved Jeremy Clarkson

Clarkson’s Farm has been a huge hit for Prime Video since it first aired in 2021, but the show was set to be a completely different beast

Over the past four years, Prime Video subscribers have been hooked on Jeremy Clarkson’s adventures managing Diddly Squat Farm in his hit series. The revelation comes after a touching statement from the broadcaster.

When Clarkson’s Farm launched in 2021, it instantly won over audiences who were entertained by the amusing obstacles and mishaps the former Top Gear presenter faced whilst attempting to operate his Cotswolds farming enterprise.

During this adventure, Jeremy has received support from a team including Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland, Gerald Cooper, Harriet Cowan and his partner Lisa Hogan, who have all gained popularity amongst viewers.

Yet Jeremy’s longtime producer Andy Wilman disclosed that the host doubted he would achieve another successful programme following his departure from the BBC motoring series.

During Wednesday’s broadcast of The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Andy admitted they hadn’t expected the programme’s popularity, reports Gloucestershire Live, reports the Mirror.

He said: “That was absolutely out of the blue. Jeremy never thought he was going to have another hit, you know? We were done.”

When Dominic Byrne commended the programme’s excellence, Andy revealed they had a contract with Amazon for Grand Tours that meant they needed to keep producing content, which resulted in separate ventures.

He added: “Jeremy went, ‘I want to do life on my farm.’ And if I had a quid for every exec who rang me and went, ‘Can you talk him out of that?'” Jeremy admitted that he had called the TV star to express his doubts about a programme centred on farming life, confessing that he couldn’t blame people for trying to dissuade Andy from it.

Andy disclosed that Jeremy was apprehensive, fearing it might be ‘the most boring thing’, but the characters on Clarkson’s Farm greatly contributed to its success.

He added: “We didn’t see that cast coming.”

Due to the popularity of Clarkson’s Farm, Kaleb has landed his own show which he is currently filming in Australia.

The new four-part series on Prime Video will see the TV star swap Chipping Norton for life down under.

Speaking about the upcoming show, he said: “I spend most of my time with the most travelled man in the world, so I got brave and booked my first ever flight to see what all the fuss was about. Australia here I come!”.

“And Australia, you’ll be gaining a new farmer for a couple of months as I discover if I can make my farming contracting business go international.”
