I Moved to Clarkson’s Farm Town… Big Mistake”: Why This Fan Deeply Regrets It.

Clarkson’s Farm Made Me Move Here—Now I Regret Everything”: Newcomer Slams Life in Chipping Norton

Locals warn: Fame, traffic, and soaring prices are changing the town for the worse

Chipping Norton—a quaint Cotswolds town once beloved for its countryside charm—is now feeling the growing pains of fame. After Clarkson’s Farm turned the town into a household name, fans and newcomers have been flocking to the area hoping for a slice of rural bliss. But one woman says the dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

“I Moved Here Because of Jeremy Clarkson…”

Bianca, who moved to Chipping Norton after becoming a fan of Clarkson’s Farm, now says she’s likely heading back to London.

“I moved here because of Jeremy but I’m probably going back. There’s literally nothing here,” she admitted. “I probably should’ve stayed in a hotel for a week to see what it was really like.”

Disappointed Tourists Say: “It’s Rubbish Here”

She’s not alone in her disappointment.

Tourist David Smart, 76, came from Northamptonshire hoping to visit Diddly Squat Farm, but left unimpressed:

“We were going to see the farm and pub, but apparently you can’t even go in. Diddly Squat? That about sums it up.”

Another visitor, Andy Goodyer from South Derbyshire, agreed:

“It’s rubbish here—we prefer the Peak District!”

Locals: “Clarkson’s Fame is Pricing Us Out”

While Jeremy Clarkson has brought attention—and revenue—to the town, longtime residents are growing increasingly worried about the town’s transformation. The spotlight has triggered a flood of tourism and, more critically, a housing boom that threatens the town’s infrastructure.

Twins Jane Hancox and Clare Webb, local residents, praised Clarkson for supporting local business but warned of deeper problems.

“Prices are going up. There isn’t the infrastructure to cope,” Clare, a cleaner, said.

Jane added:

“All we smell now is sewage from new housing. The roads can’t take it, the traffic is a nightmare, and we can’t even get a doctor’s appointment.”

Chipping Norton Faces Massive Housing Expansion

Locals’ fears may be justified. Developers have proposed building 350 new homes near Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm—plans that have already drawn backlash.

Additionally, nearby land was approved in 2023 for another 90-home development, and a separate 100-home plan was green-lit earlier this year, despite over 100 objections from the community.

“The affordable homes were supposed to be for local families,” Jane said. “But most went to strangers from out of town.”

A Town at a Tipping Point

Once a peaceful village with famous names like David Beckham, Kate Moss, and David Cameron quietly calling it home, Chipping Norton is now facing growing traffic, inflated housing costs, and a wave of outsiders drawn in by the allure of TV fame.

And as newcomers like Bianca turn back in disappointment, locals are left asking—how much longer can the real Chipping Norton survive?
