“I’m Coming for a Pint!” – Rock Star Announces Plans to Storm Clarkson’s Famous Cotswolds Watering Hole
A legendary figure from British rock music has revealed that he is hoping to pay a visit to Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds pub during an upcoming trip to Oxfordshire.
The pub, formerly known as The Windmill in Asthall, was purchased by the television presenter last year for around £1 million. After undergoing extensive renovations, it reopened under its new name, The Farmer’s Dog, welcoming members of the public for the first time in August 2024.
Since reopening, the countryside pub near Burford in West Oxfordshire has quickly become a popular destination, attracting not only locals and visitors but also a growing list of high-profile guests. Among those who have already stopped by for a drink is Status Quo drummer John Coghlan.
Now, another well-known musician has spoken about his desire to visit the venue. Slade guitarist Dave Hill is set to travel to Oxfordshire next week when the band performs at Oxford’s O2 Academy on Cowley Road.
Speaking exclusively to the Oxford Mail ahead of the show, the 79-year-old reflected on Clarkson’s larger-than-life reputation and his connection to the county.
“Jeremy, now there’s a guy,” Mr Hill said. “I bet he’s a Slade fan.”
He went on to suggest the two would likely get along well, praising the presenter’s humour and personality.
“His humour is something else. I think we’d get along, and it would be a battle to see who comes out with the best jokes,” he said.
Mr Hill also spoke warmly about Clarkson’s television career, particularly his long-running work on Top Gear and his more recent farming series.
“Jeremy Clarkson is very clever,” he added. “I obviously enjoyed Top Gear with all the mad driving, and now it’s very entertaining watching him buy enormous tractors that look completely ridiculous for what should be a simple job.”
While no visit has yet been confirmed, Mr Hill’s comments add to the growing profile of The Farmer’s Dog, which has increasingly become a magnet for famous faces since opening its doors.
