Jeremy Clarkson blasts councillor over Clarkson’s Farm jibe
Jeremy Clarkson has launched a blistering attack on a Welsh councillor after they mocked his Prime Video show, Clarkson’s Farm, following a comment he made on social media about the BBC’s Countryfile.
On Sunday evening (March 8), the 65-year-old television personality took to social media platform X to express his appreciation for the BBC’s Countryfile. Clarkson wrote, “Has anyone else noticed how much better Countryfile has got in recent years?” He went on to praise the show’s focus on “proper farming stuff,” highlighting that it had moved away from what he called “stupid people hugging trees and humming.”
However, the former Top Gear host seemed to backtrack when the topic of climate change came up. He quickly added, “No wait. They’ve brought climate change into it. As you were.” This comment sparked a wave of responses, with some agreeing with Clarkson’s criticism of the inclusion of climate change while others pointed out the irony of Clarkson, whose own farm has suffered from extreme weather, making such remarks.
One individual who was particularly displeased with Clarkson’s comment was Cardiff councillor Dan De’Ath, who serves as a cabinet member for climate change, strategic planning, and transport. De’Ath, no stranger to the debate over climate change, fired back at Clarkson in a post on X, saying, “Every season of Clarkson’s Farm highlights how unprecedented rain, drought, or heat can cause massive problems. His own show reveals the real consequences of climate change. I guess it’s easy not to care, though, when you own a farm mainly as a tax dodge.”
De’Ath’s post quickly gained traction, accumulating more than 24,000 likes in support, which drew a sharp reaction from Clarkson. On Tuesday (March 11), he responded with a scathing reply, writing, “God almighty. Someone elected you?” He continued, “Let’s hope that next time around, the good people of Wales cause you to not have a job anymore.”
This back-and-forth between the politician and Clarkson has generated significant attention, with many observing the tension between the two public figures on the subject of climate change. Clarkson, known for his controversial opinions, often courts debate, and it seems this latest clash will only add fuel to the fire regarding his views on farming, climate change, and the role of media in addressing such issues. The exchange also highlights the ongoing political divide over climate action and the farming industry, particularly with regard to the role celebrities play in shaping public perceptions of environmental issues.
