Jeremy Clarkson finally gets good news after ‘catastrophic’ Diddly Squat farm update
Jeremy Clarkson has faced a number of challenges on his farm in recent weeks, but the former Top Gear presenter has finally been met with something worth celebrating
Jeremy Clarkson has had a challenging few weeks, but things are looking up for the former Top Gear presenter. The 65-year-old broadcaster had to pause filming for the fifth series of his Amazon show due to the controversial visit of JD Vance to the Cotswolds. The politician’s UK trip ruffled feathers among locals after he imposed a no-fly zone around the opulent 18th-century Dean Manor in Chipping Norton during his stay, and even invited a Strictly star along.
However, dad-of-three Jeremy is on an upward trajectory after sharing some thrilling news with his 9.4million Instagram followers. Posting a picture of his Amazon show, Clarkson’s Farm, he revealed: “We’ve been nominated for the National TV Awards.”
In more happy news, Kaleb Cooper, star of Clarkson’s Farm, welcomed his third child on Monday (August 18). The farmer took a day off from the fields when his fiancée Taya went into labour.
The pair already have two young children, Oscar, born in 2021, and Willa, born in 2023. Fans were delighted to hear about the newest member of the family, reports the Express.
Sharing a sweet photo of his third child on Instagram, he introduced his devoted followers to his youngest son, Ashton. This joyful news provides a welcome break for the motoring journalist who is bracing for a “catastrophic” year on the farm.
Jeremy Clarkson has taken to social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – to express his concerns about this year’s harvest, writing: “It looks like this year’s harvest will be catastrophic. That should be a worry for anyone who eats food.
“If a disaster on this scale had befallen any other industry, there would be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
While he didn’t specify the exact issues plaguing his farm, fans in the comments section speculated that the unpredictable British weather was to blame.
This isn’t the first time Clarkson’s crops have suffered. Back in June, during a heatwave in the UK, the Top Gear presenter wrote in his Times column about how erratic weather patterns were impacting his Diddly Squat Farm.
He detailed how a severe lack of rain in recent months had hindered the growth of his crops. Jeremy commented: “It used to be reasonably predictable, but it just isn’t anymore. In March Diddly Squat had no rain at all. Not even a drop.
“In April we got 20mm, which in old money is bugger all. And so far in May we’ve had 4mm. You couldn’t keep a window box going with a dribble like that. It’s been drier than it was in 1976.
“And while we do have about thirty springs on the farm, they’re all in the wrong places. So my onions and my beetroots are just sitting in the dust.”
He went on: “The wheat, meanwhile, is curling up, the barley won’t really get cracking at all and I dread to think what manner or terribleness is being foisted on my poor potatoes.”
The heartbreaking update follows just days after Jeremy revealed a tragic death on his farm, whilst also grappling with distressing problems affecting his cattle.
He announced that the farm would need to shut temporarily, though his shop would continue trading following an outbreak of Bovine TB (Tuberculosis).
Posting on X, the celebrity revealed: “Bad news from Diddly Squat. We’ve gone down with TB. Everyone here is absolutely devastated.”
Jeremy later clarified: “I should clear this up, really. It’s Bovine TB that we have. It doesn’t affect people, just our poor cows.”
Speaking to Times Radio, he confirmed the farm’s temporary closure, saying: “It’s awful, it is awful. You have a test every six months on the cows, and then you sort of become blasé. It’s a hypothetical threat.”
The presenter confessed: “It’s only been not even 24 hours since I found out, and it occupies my mind.”
Additionally, one of the puppies from the litter his dog Arya delivered passed away mere days after birth.
