Jeremy Clarkson Opens Up About Health Struggles: “It’s Eating My Muscles”
In his latest column, former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson weighed in on new Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupé and made an honest health admission about his use of a certain medication
Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that his medication is “eating” his muscles in a frank admission about his health, but admitted that he’s unwilling to do what’s necessary to “counteract this”. The revelation from the Clarkson’s Farm presenter emerged in a recent column where he offered his views on an “actual car”, specifically the new Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupé.
However, Clarkson began his piece by addressing the New Year and our apparent inability to adhere to our resolutions, including the aspiration for “living clean”, a lifestyle choice he deems “simply isn’t worth the effort”.
He also discussed his use of the weight loss drug Mounjaro and how he “absolutely must” undertake a certain activity – often linked with New Year’s resolutions – to “counteract” a particular side effect.
In his column for The Times, he stated: “The human being is a flawed design. We have the intellectual capacity to work out what is good for us, but most of us can’t be bothered to do anything about it.”
Clarkson went on to say: “Science and painstaking research recently determined that Mounjaro is eating my muscles and that to counteract this I absolutely must do weights in the gym.”
“So what am I going to do about that? Come off Mounjaro probably. I really can’t abide being out of breath.”
Taken as a jab, Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) is a weight loss medication that can help tackle a patient’s appetite by making them feel full and reducing the time it takes for their stomach to empty, according to the NHS.
Clarkson reportedly shed three stone in just six months through his use of the increasingly popular treatment, though he also disclosed that he believes he has now “plateaued”.
In conversation with The Sun newspaper’s Sun Club, Clarkson described the medication as “astonishing”. He explained: “The shoes I was wearing last year are falling off me as I’m walking around. I think I might be the first person in the world to lose weight on my feet.
“I’ve plateaued now. I’m still on it, but not losing any more weight – but nor am I putting any on, because it keeps my appetite level down. It really is an astonishing drug.”
Online pharmacy Chemist4U says that the weight that people lose when taking Mounjaro isn’t entirely fat. It pointed to research that suggested that up to one-third of the loss is “non-fat mass” or “muscle and bone mass (lean mass)”.
Discussing his Mounjaro experience further with The Sun, Clarkson also noted that he hasn’t experienced many typical side effects, though his partner, Lisa Hogan, reportedly noticed he’d become slightly more grumpy.
He remarked: “Constipation? No, I don’t have that. Diminished libido? I’m 65 – it’s hard to know what’s causing that”, before adding that he’s “just a little bit duller and not quite as sharp”.
