Jeremy Clarkson pays Richard Hammond £20,000 for TV reunion

Jeremy Clarkson had to pay Richard Hammond £20,000 during a TV reunion on Clarkson’s Farm.

The pair worked alongside James May on BBC’s Top Gear and Prime Video’s The Grand Tour for over two decades.

With one final trip, the trio bowed out with a tour around Zimbabwe and Botswana, released last year.

Mr Clarkson has since been focusing on his farming documentary, Clarkson’s Farm set at Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington, Oxfordshire.

With four seasons to date following the release of new episodes this month, a fifth is currently filming as well.

In the latest episodes in series four, which were released across the last two Fridays this month, a familiar face has met with Mr Clarkson.

The 65 years old called on the help of Mr Hammond while preparing to open a new pub in Oxfordshire.

Mr Clarkson had purchased The Windmill in Asthall near Burford for around £1,000,000 and had renamed it The Farmer’s Dog.

Ahead of opening in August 2024, the TV celebrity visited his old co-star for help respraying a decorative tractor to hang from the Cotswolds watering hole’s ceiling.

In the voiceover on a new Clarkson’s Farm episode, Mr Clarkson said: “Since we were only five weeks from opening, I was forced to agree to Buttons’ [Richard Hammond’s nickname] terms.”

The 65-year-old then drives to Mr Hammond’s car restoration business, The Smallest Cog in Herefordshire.

Giving his old co-star a warm welcome, Mr Hammond said: “This is it. That’s a really nice tractor… It’s a fine thing.

“We have worse turn up for this restoration.”

Clarkson then explained he wanted the vehicle to be lightened over fears that it would pull down the pub’s roof.

Mr Clarkson adds a joke about needing to get the job sorted before panto season begins and he then teases that Mr Hammond is finally getting a Clarkson’s Farm cameo.

“Your contribution is immense and in some ways not dignified,” he said.

The voiceover then adds that his least favourite topic is money and that the pub “costs too much money”.

Mr Clarkson then asked: “Are we talking hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands?”

One of the business’s employees confirmed that the work would set Mr Clarkson back “tens of thousands”.

Shocked, the TV host replied: “£20,000?”

“To chrome it? What? I could have done it! £20,000 to paint a tractor!”

Mr Hammond playfully responded: “The point is as your bank balance is taking a beating.

“Let’s keep it going! Why give up? Then it’ll have strength and it’ll be resistant. Now it’s floppy and weak.”
