Jeremy Clarkson ‘playing Russian Roulette’ with his health in latest update
Jeremy Clarkson has confessed he has no idea if what he is eating for his breakfast is even safe
Jeremy Clarkson has disclosed his newest health worry – and it stems from something as mundane as breakfast. In his Sun column on September 12, the Clarkson’s Farm host described how the fields surrounding his Oxfordshire property are “carpeted with mushrooms,” and confessed he has no clue which ones are safe to consume.
“There are 15,000 different types of mushroom in the UK and you can eat all of them,” he penned. “But some of them only once. And that’s where things get tricky. Because it’s nigh on impossible to tell which ones are fatal and which ones are not.”
Despite this danger, Clarkson confessed: “So I just chuck them all in a pan at lunchtime and play Russian roulette. So far so goo ..”
The admission appeared at the conclusion of an extensive piece that also addressed Sir Keir Starmer’s selection of Peter Mandelson, grievances about the expense of the Motability car scheme, and his annoyance at having to collect an NTA for Clarkson’s Farm during a London Tube strike, reports the Express.
Clarkson’s reflections on mushrooms contribute to a series of health tales involving the 64 year old in recent years.
Lately, the Top Gear presenter has spoken candidly about his continuing anxieties following his pneumonia diagnosis in 2017 whilst holidaying in Majorca.
During that period, he spent nearly a week in intensive care, subsequently acknowledging the condition made him feel “very, very unwell” and anxious about what lay ahead. In recent times, he has been open about the impact of his former heavy smoking habit on his health.
Clarkson has previously admitted to smoking as many as 40 cigarettes a day before he quit, and has since cautioned fans about the harm it inflicted on his lungs.
The star of The Grand Tour has also penned articles about high blood pressure and the challenges of ageing in the spotlight. In a previous column, he recounted finding lumps beneath his skin, which sparked concerns of cancer until medical professionals confirmed he was cancer-free.
