Jeremy Clarkson responds in classic fashion after being slammed as “useless farmer”

Jeremy Clarkson has fired back with a characteristically candid response after being branded a “useless farmer” online — but the former Top Gear host insists he’s improving with time.

Clarkson, who bought his 1,000-acre Chadlington farm in the Cotswolds back in 2008, didn’t take on the challenge of running it himself until 2019. The decision was captured on camera for Clarkson’s Farm, his hit Prime Video series that follows his often-chaotic journey through the trials of modern agriculture.

Over the show’s four seasons, viewers have watched the 65-year-old battle red tape, erratic weather, plummeting profits, and his own steep learning curve. Yet despite the endless hurdles, Clarkson’s comedic honesty and stubborn persistence have won over millions of fans — and even helped shine a national spotlight on the struggles faced by British farmers.

Recently, Clarkson made headlines again when he hinted at a possible run for Parliament, suggesting on X (formerly Twitter) that he might stand in his home constituency of Doncaster North. “People of Doncaster North. Are you happy with your MP?” he posted on October 12. “Would you like it if someone from your neck of the woods kicked him out?”

The post sparked a frenzy of reactions. One fan encouraged the idea, saying: “Actually, I would quite like Jeremy Clarkson to stand against Miliband, take his seat, then do a Netflix series exposing the corruption, mediocrity and incompetence of Westminster. Clarkson’s Parliament would be a winner.”

Another follower wasn’t so keen, bluntly replying, “He’d be f**king useless as an MP.” And when a third chimed in to add, “He’s useless as a farmer. That’s the point,” Clarkson couldn’t resist stepping in himself.

With typical dry wit, he simply responded:

“I’m actually getting better.”

It’s a short reply — but pure Clarkson: unbothered, self-aware, and quietly confident that whether it’s politics or ploughing, he’ll keep proving doubters wrong one muddy field at a time.
