Jeremy Clarkson Shocks Fans With Sudden Pub Closure!

Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds pub, The Farmer’s Dog, has announced it will close its doors every Monday to give its staff a well-earned break — just months after a cheeky fan’s request sparked debate online.

The Clarkson’s Farm star bought the Windmill Pub in Athl for £1 million, gave it a signature Clarkson makeover, and reopened it last August under its new name. Since then, The Farmer’s Dog has quickly become a magnet for locals, tourists, and fans of Clarkson’s Hawkstone beer.

A Fan’s Bold Ask Sparks a Change
The new schedule comes after an amusing exchange on X (formerly Twitter). A fan messaged Clarkson asking if he’d open the pub “about six hours earlier” one Monday so they could visit — not realizing the doors don’t open until 5 p.m. on the first day of the week.

Clarkson’s response was classic Jeremy: “Mondays are when our brilliant staff catch their breath.”

Apparently, the point hit home. As of Monday, July 21, The Farmer’s Dog is now officially closed on Mondays, giving its hard-working crew an entire day to rest.

The announcement was made on the pub’s Facebook page alongside a smiling team photo and a message: “We are giving our team Mondays to spend time recharging. We will be fully open Tuesday to Sunday in both the pub and the Grand Tour tent.”

Keeping It Local
The update means fans and thirsty punters will have to plan ahead if they want a pint of Clarkson’s Hawkstone lager — or any other pub fare — at the Athl watering hole. The pub’s website now clearly lists Monday as “Closed” on its opening hours.

It’s the latest sign that Clarkson — who famously swapped cars for cows in Amazon Prime’s Clarkson’s Farm — is serious about backing his local community and protecting his staff’s well-being, even at the cost of a day’s trade.

A Pint and a Breather
Since its opening, The Farmer’s Dog has been buzzing with business, with locals praising the venue for its atmosphere and Hawkstone fans making pilgrimages to sip the beer straight from the source.

So, will punters mind the Monday pint ban? Or is it a smart move to keep the team fresh for the rest of the week? Either way, Clarkson seems content to stand by his staff — and pour another round Tuesday through Sunday.
