Jeremy Clarkson’s Pub Turns into a Disaster : Here’s What Went Wrong.
Jeremy Clarkson’s Pub Dream Turns Into a Hilarious Nightmare: “I Don’t Understand Business”
From farm to pub, the Grand Tour star faces unexpected obstacles — including a notorious dogging hotspot and dead rats
Jeremy Clarkson, star of Clarkson’s Farm and The Grand Tour, has admitted that his latest venture into the pub business may also be his last. Despite his fame and success on screen and at his beloved Diddly Squat Farm, Clarkson confessed:
“I don’t understand it and am not motivated by money. I just want a good craic.”
In July 2024, Clarkson expanded his empire by taking over The Windmill, a countryside pub in the quiet village of Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire. Spread across five acres, the pub has now been rebranded as The Farmer’s Dog — a name whose origins turned out to be far more bizarre than anyone expected.
📺 New Show, Same Chaos
Clarkson’s journey as a pub landlord is being documented in an upcoming Prime Video series, much like the wildly popular Clarkson’s Farm. But this time, the challenges aren’t just about crops and cattle — they include dead rats, surprise graffiti, and, most shockingly, a thriving dogging scene.
In Clarkson’s Farm Season 3, Episode 4, Clarkson is shown reading legal documents about the pub’s grounds. That’s when he discovers a hilarious and awkward twist:
The garden of the pub is officially designated as a public picnic site, a fact that has become, in Clarkson’s words, “blurred and confusing.”
😳 “You Bought a Pub on a Dogging Site”
Clarkson called his lawyer for clarification, only to be informed that the area is a known hotspot for anti-social behaviour, particularly of a sexual nature.
“We have happened upon some quite interesting photographs,” the lawyer said, referencing “graffiti and certain goings-on.”
Clarkson later found underwear hanging in the trees, confirming that the site’s reputation wasn’t just historical — the activity was still very much alive.
The TV host reacted in his signature tongue-in-cheek style by posting a video to Instagram, holding up a stick with a pair of pink and black knickers on it. His caption read:
“Tell me you bought a pub on a dogging site without telling me you bought a pub on a dogging site.”
🐀 Dead Rats and Village Boozers
Clarkson didn’t just inherit an awkward location. According to his remarks, the pub was also “full of dead rats” when he took it over — making his mission to turn it into a “fun” village watering hole even more daunting.
Still, Clarkson remains determined to give the place a second life, even if it’s his final foray into business. With the support of his partner Lisa Hogan, who continues to run the Diddly Squat Farm Shop, Clarkson is pushing forward, turning even the most bizarre setbacks into must-watch entertainment.
📣 Coming Soon: The Farmer’s Dog — Pub Life, Clarkson-Style
Fans of Clarkson’s Farm can look forward to a brand-new spinoff series that follows Jeremy as he transforms a rundown, scandal-ridden pub into something worth raising a pint in.
Whether it’s dead rodents, dodgy history, or Clarkson’s general confusion about how business works, one thing’s for sure — the chaos is just beginning.
