Deadliest Catch

Sig Hansen & Jake Anderson Stunned as Keith Colburn Suffers Stroke Scare at Sea

A medical emergency has rocked the Deadliest Catch fleet as veteran skipper Keith Colburn suffered a suspected mild stroke while aboard the Wizard, forcing a risky rescue mission in treacherous conditions.

The Wizard crew had no choice but to call in the U.S. Coast Guard after Keith showed alarming symptoms. With only basic first aid skills on deck and no doctor on board, the crew scrambled to reach St. Paul Island — the nearest airstrip in the middle of the remote Bering Sea.

“He needs to get off that boat immediately,” one worried crew member radioed as rough seas and a dangerous westerly wind made their approach to the tiny harbor nerve-wracking.

“A southwest wind is never safe for St. Paul,” another warned as the Wizard fought heavy swells and a narrow, twisting harbor entrance. Despite the risky maneuver, the crew made it in, transferring Keith ashore for an urgent flight to Anchorage for treatment.

Fellow captains Sig Hansen and Jake Anderson were shocked by the news. Both know all too well how unforgiving the Bering Sea can be — and how brutal the toll is on every fisherman who braves its waters.

“Keith’s tough, but this is a wake-up call,” Jake said. “No one’s invincible out here.”

With Keith off the Wizard, the burden of finishing the stressful trip now falls on deck boss Bonnie and the remaining crew.

“He was stressed, yelling and pushing hard, but we’ll get through it,” Bonnie said as she took the helm, determined to bring the boat — and its valuable crab haul — back to port safely.

As the fleet pushes through ice, storms, and exhaustion, Keith’s emergency is a stark reminder that the real danger on Deadliest Catch isn’t just the sea — it’s what it can do to the people who dare to tame it.
