Deadliest Catch

Unanswered Questions Surround June Hansen as Reports Hint at a Potential Medical Emergency

Recent social media posts claiming that Deadliest Catch star Sig Hansen’s wife, June Hansen, has died are completely false. Despite what’s being shared across Facebook fan groups, June Hansen is alive, and there has been no official announcement from Sig or any credible outlet confirming her death.

The false reports began circulating in mid-October after several Facebook pages — including one named Deadliest Catch Shows News — shared an edited image of June Hansen alongside a fabricated caption. The post falsely alleged that Sig Hansen had announced his wife’s passing on October 17, 2025, at 11:05 a.m. following a battle with cancer.

The post read:

“Today’s Very Sad News!!!! ‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Sig Hansen just announced that his wife June Hansen passed away at 11:05 AM on October 17, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Please send prayers and support to the Hansen family.”

The page also included a link to a questionable external website known for spreading unverified celebrity “obituaries.” Soon, the same message — often paired with AI-generated or heavily edited photos of Sig and June — appeared in other fan-run Facebook groups, where it spread rapidly before being flagged by skeptical viewers.

However, there is no evidence that June Hansen has passed away. Neither the Hansen family nor any legitimate media outlet has reported such news. The lack of official confirmation, coupled with the use of AI imagery and clickbait phrasing, strongly suggests that these viral posts are entirely fabricated.

June Hansen’s Health Journey and Recovery

While the rumors of her death are false, it’s true that June Hansen was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. Her health battle was documented in Deadliest Catch Season 15, when Sig Hansen shared the emotional news on camera:

“It sounds like my wife has a form of cancer. We do know that this area on her neck is cancer — we just don’t know if there’s more.”

Thankfully, June went through treatment and later recovered. Since then, she has appeared in good health and in high spirits alongside Sig.

In a 2025 interview with Parade magazine, Sig Hansen gave fans an update on June’s wellbeing. He confirmed that his wife is “doing well,” adding:

“She did have potential cancer, but we got through that. She’s very cautious about her health — she works out every day. We’ve got a pool at home, and when we’re there, she’s swimming.”

Sig joked that June is much faster than him in the water, saying she “beats him every time.” His comments made clear that June Hansen is alive, active, and focused on maintaining her health.

Sig Hansen’s Own Health Battles

Sig Hansen himself has faced serious medical challenges over the years. The veteran captain, who commands the F/V Northwestern on Deadliest Catch, suffered a heart attack in 2016, followed by another in 2018 caused by a severe allergic reaction. Despite those scares, he has continued working on the Bering Sea and remains one of the most respected figures in commercial fishing.

In the same interview, Sig shared that his doctors had good news — his heart is now 20% stronger than before. He admitted he still struggles to quit smoking entirely, calling cigarettes “very addictive,” but expressed determination to stay healthy for his family and crew.

The Bottom Line

The claims about June Hansen’s death are false and misleading. The couple continues to live together in Washington, and both have spoken positively about their health in recent months.

Fans are urged to be cautious about unverified social media posts — especially those using AI-generated images or overly emotional headlines meant to drive clicks. As of now, June Hansen is alive and well, and both she and Sig remain active parts of the Deadliest Catch legacy that has inspired viewers for nearly two decades.
