Kelvin Fletcher and wife face farm devastation ‘we would have been homeless again’
Kelvin Fletcher and his wife, Liz, almost lost their home again in Sunday’s episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm
Kelvin Fletcher and his wife, Liz, faced a massive setback during the latest episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm, which airs on Sunday. Liz looked emotional as she opened up about the prospect of being made homeless again.
Last year, the Fletcher Family were forced to flee their farm following a devastating fire. However, in the latest episode, the couple were hit with another blow after a massive storm hit.
Kelvin said in the voiceover, “Storm season is sweeping through the whole country, causing major floods and devastation, and our farm hasn’t escaped the impact.”
As Liz and Kelvin inspected the damage, Liz said, in shock, “Gosh, it’s hard to believe that the wind can blow that down, isn’t it?”
Commenting on the tree that had fallen very close to their family home, Kelvin said, “Well, we’re very lucky, because another 10 feet would have been in the lodge.”
“We would have been homeless again,” Liz replied. “We’ve had every element now. We’ve had fire, floods, and now the wind has just missed the lodge, which must mean that our luck is finally on the way up.
“I don’t know what has gone on this year, but we’ve definitely been put to the test.”
Kelvin then suggested they walk around the farm to see what other damage had been caused by the storm.
He said, “I’ve just seen that at the top of the paddock as well, we’ve got a massive tree that’s come down, that’s gone right over some fencing.”
“It’s lucky nothing got hurt there, really, isn’t it?” Liz commented, to which her husband hit back, “We might get up there and find the sheep underneath it.”
As Liz climbed up the hill, she stated, “I talk about Kelvin’s farming trainers, I’ve made the biggest mistake today. White joggers and my favourite boots.
“I don’t know what I was thinking, not my usual attire, but it’s so cold, I’ve got two sets of thermals on, thick socks, and joggers.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Kelvin prepares Sonic to be sent off to be slaughtered, so he brings him into the barn.
“The day has arrived to say goodbye to our first-ever calf, Sonic, who’s heading off on his final journey,” he said. “This morning, we’re taking Sonic to, well, there’s no best way to say, I guess, to slaughter really. Sonic is going. So, yeah, bittersweet, really. It’s a bit of a weird one.
“I was thinking about this last night, and I woke up this morning feeling a bit… it is different to a sheep.”
“I think it makes it even more difficult because we have got seven cows, and he was our first. You know, his tag number is 001, he’s our first cow. So, I guess we’ll always remember this one,” he added.
“We’ll always remember Sonic. They say the first is always the hardest, and then, who knows.”
