Kelvin Fletcher and Wife Liz Deliver Emotional Announcement After Farm Heartbreak
Kelvin Fletcher and his wife Liz have faced an emotional rollercoaster on their family farm in Cheshire, as the couple received both joyous and heartbreaking news in the upcoming episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm. The emotional moment, set to air this Sunday on ITV, shows the former Emmerdale star and his wife learning from their vet that one of their cherished cows has tragically suffered a miscarriage — just moments after discovering that another cow was happily expecting a calf.
The episode begins with Kelvin and Liz preparing for the pregnancy scans, a nerve-racking but exciting moment for the couple, who have embraced life on the farm with their four young children. As the vet arrived, Liz admitted she was feeling anxious about what the results might bring. “We’ve got the cows in. We’re going to pregnancy test them,” she said, visibly nervous. “It’s a little bit nerve-racking, whether it’s worked, whether he’s done his job, or whether he’s just been rolling around the field having a nice time. I’m hoping he’s been busy.”
First up for the check was Cherry, one of the farm’s much-loved cows. As the vet began scanning, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation before he finally confirmed the good news. “So, I’m just scanning around both sides of a uterus,” he said. “And there is a calf in there.”
The relief and happiness were immediate. “Yes!” Kelvin exclaimed with a huge smile, while the vet added, “You’ve got one pregnancy there, all looking healthy. That’s a healthy calf.” Liz turned to their children, who were watching closely, and told them proudly, “She is having a baby.”
The vet explained that the tiny calf was around seven weeks old and measured just three centimetres in size. Kelvin, clearly moved, said to his children, “Have a quick look there, guys — what a special moment to share with your kids.” It was a touching family scene, filled with warmth, hope, and pride for the couple, who have poured their hearts into running their Cheshire farm.
However, their happiness soon turned to sorrow when it was Ruby’s turn to be examined. The vet’s tone shifted as he delivered the devastating update. “Okay, not quite so good news now, Kelvin, I’m afraid,” he began gently. “Strangely, she actually seems to have a uterus infection, which most likely means she has been pregnant and has had a miscarriage.”
Liz looked distraught, softly saying, “Oh no,” as the vet went on to explain that Ruby would need immediate treatment. “We’re going to have to give her an injection to clear that out,” he said. “The longer you leave it untreated, the higher the chance of them not getting in calf, basically.”
Kelvin, visibly disappointed but determined to stay positive, reflected on the setback. “I mean, it’s disappointing,” he admitted. “It’s a shame, but the main priority is to get it sorted and treated. So we’re gonna give her an injection now that’ll treat her.”
Despite the sad turn of events, the couple found comfort in the vet’s reassurance that Ruby’s miscarriage was not the end of her story. “There is some good news,” Kelvin added with cautious optimism. “The miscarriage does prove that Ruby is fertile, and once she’s recovered, we’ll be able to run her with a bull.”
The emotional highs and lows of farm life are nothing new to the Fletchers, who have documented their journey from actors to full-time farmers with raw honesty and heart. Through the laughter, challenges, and tender moments like these, Fletcher’s Family Farm continues to showcase not just the beauty of rural living, but the resilience and compassion at the heart of family farming.
Fans can watch the moving scenes unfold when Fletcher’s Family Farm airs this Sunday at 11:30am on ITV.
