Ancient Vault of Gold Worth $50 Million Found by Parker Schnabel

DAWSON CITY, YUKON — What began as an ordinary day of gold mining for Discovery Channel’s Gold Rush star Parker Schnabel has turned into one of the most astonishing finds in Yukon history — a sealed underground vault containing over $50 million in pure gold.

Schnabel and his crew had been following what they believed to be a promising pay streak when heavy machinery hit an unusually hard surface beneath the frozen permafrost. Digging deeper, they uncovered mirror-polished gold bars stacked neatly inside a clay-lined chamber that, according to preliminary examination, has not been disturbed for centuries.

“It’s the kind of thing you dream about, but never think you’ll actually see,” Schnabel told reporters at the site. “This isn’t just gold — it’s a time capsule.”

Beneath the glittering hoard, the team found something even more puzzling: a massive carved stone slab and a sealed oak door. Both were etched with unfamiliar symbols, including what experts believe to be ancient star charts.

Local archaeologists have been called to the site, and a team of historians is already working to date and decipher the markings. Speculation ranges from Indigenous trade vaults to secret stashes from early European explorers, and even whispers of connections to legendary lost gold routes.

The Canadian government has dispatched officials to secure the area amid concerns over artifact preservation and ownership rights. While the gold’s monetary value is staggering, experts say the real treasure may be the untold history locked behind the sealed oak door.

As for Schnabel, the 29-year-old miner says he intends to work closely with historians to uncover the truth.

“The gold is incredible, but what’s behind that door… that could change history,” he said.

For now, the Yukon’s newest mystery remains buried — but not for long.
