Gold Rush

Dry Blowers Missed It: Tyler Mahoney Hits Gold Run Beneath Forgotten Hill

We absolutely got smashed by the old-timers on this hill. Dry blowings all over it. But that’s what tipped us off—when you see signs like that, you know they were onto something. And this time, they missed a run. There’s another one just there, and another below it. That’s when we realised: there’s an alluvial flow coming off the old reef line.

We dropped the loader in ground was pretty deep and we started hitting some nice gold.

Detector Choice: SDC for the Hill Job

I grabbed the SDC today. Not my favourite detector, but it’s perfect for what we’re doing—lightweight and ideal for prospecting up high where the ground’s shallow and the reefs are close to the surface. Meanwhile, Reese was working down on the scrapes. He called me over, which usually means he’s found something worth seeing.

Small Signals, Big Hope

Reese doesn’t let me on camera much, but I snuck in to film this one. We had a nice signal next to a scuff mark. Sounded good. Bit wobbly, but good. Dug around and—sure enough—a nugget popped out. Not huge, but gold is gold.

You can see the work the old boys put into this hill. Dry blowers had been through, testing everywhere—undersize and oversize piles, shafts punched into the ridges. But they missed this line. We’re picking up the gold that’s shed down into the alluvial country below.

Snakes and Wash Rock

Dad’s been running the loader through the scrapes while Reese is detecting. Then we spotted a brown snake near the edge of the hill—classic Aussie moment. Real snaky country. Be aware out here.

Later, Reese got onto a screaming target near some massive wash rock. That’s always a good sign—big rocks holding gold. Dad and Reese argued about who dented the last nugget (as usual). Someone asked on one of my videos, “Why do you always make your dad dig your holes?” I just reckon dads are better at it!

Nugget of the Day: 20 Grams

Eventually, the nugget popped out—decent size, maybe 20 grams. Beautiful piece. Not as big as it sounded, but still an awesome bit of colour. We were all stoked.

Afternoon Wrap-Up

I went up the hill for another detect—no gold, just rubbish. Meanwhile, Reese and Dad picked up a few more on the scrapes. It’s a bit smashed up there, but still producing.

We knocked off early. There’s a bunch of town stuff that needs doing before everything shuts for Easter weekend. Dad’s cleaning up all the gold tonight—I’ll show you that in next week’s vlog.
